Marisa and Konrad

How We Met

I remember being a freshman in high school and hearing from my friends about this boy, Konrad. After months of thinking he was cute from afar, I finally had a class with him (Geoscience) and knew this was my chance to get to know him. I was 14 at the time and he was 15. I’ll never forget the first time he asked me out – he wrote on a tiny piece of paper and tossed it to me during class asking if I wanted to get Juice Stop after school. Unfortunately, being 14 my parents told me I was not allowed to go on dates until I was 16 and being a good daughter I declined the date. Months and months of begging went by and I finally convinced my parents to drive us to a movie together. On January 11, 2010 he asked me to be his girlfriend in the basement hallway of our high school after I had dared him over text message to finally do it! We just celebrated our 7.5 year “monthaversary” in July and as I reflect back I realize how blessed I am.

Proposal Ideas Omaha, NE (Lonergan Lake)

Many people over the years would ask me how have you been together so long? How have you not gotten sick of each other? How can you only date one person in your life? And the answer I always give is that he is my best friend and I’ve never imagined life with anyone else. He handles my sass, encourages me, buys me food when i’m hungry (maybe one of the most important key notes here), pushes me to be a better person, and is my rock on the good and bad days. He was my first date, first kiss, my first homecoming and prom date, we graduated high school together, he was there for me when my grandfather passed away, when my family went through struggles, he was there for my college graduation and to go with me to my physical therapy school interviews. And now he will be my fiance and help me move to a new city to start physical therapy school and take on life together – whatever it throws at us.

How He Asked

Over the past few months I’ve had an inkling that something big was coming, but I wasn’t quite sure how, when, or where he was going to do it. His aunt, Chris Christen is the editor for Wedding Essentials Omaha and asked me if I would like to model for one of their styled shoots for their magazine in October. Of course who could ever say no to getting their hair, makeup and nails done, putting on beautiful wedding gowns, and feeling like a princess?! It was a hot and muggy day and on the drive up to Omaha for the shoot and then it started to sprinkle. I kept my fingers crossed that this photo-shoot would go on! When I got there I began to try on dresses and get ready and already felt like I was in a dream.

Our only struggle was that we were starting to lose good lighting, so we needed to hurry and work with what we had. At one point during the photo-shoot, we all look out into the open field and notice the clouds had opened up and the sunset was beaming golden rays throughout the scene. It was so beautiful and looking back now it felt like God was beaming down from above. The photo-shoot was an absolute dream. There was a beautiful wall of candles places on logs and a canopy hanging from the trees. As the photo-shoot was nearing an end, they wanted to get a detailed photo of the back of my dress and they told me to hold still and not worry about posing or turning around.

As I stood there, I turn around (prematurely, causing everyone to panic) and I see Konrad walking towards me. Words cannot even describe the emotions I felt and it truly felt like the world had stopped. He came over to me, got down on one knee, and asked me to marry him.

I was so happy I don’t even know what I said! After they took photos of us and we celebrated with our favorite, The Cheesecake Factory. It all still feels like a dream and I cannot wait to marry my high school sweetheart, my best friend!
