How We Met

Tim & I believe we crossed each other’s paths way before we were actually introduced… so we just say we met May of 2014. I was just graduating high school and we met through some mutual friends. I was 18 and he was 20.The summer of 2014 was the first summer we spent together but we quickly realized we were on different pages. I wasn’t exactly looking for a relationship and he had just gotten out of a serious one. We remained friends but were “on and off” for about a year until we finally made it official on May 5th, 2015. Ever since that day and all the days before that, my life changed because of him. I had never met someone so kind, so caring, and genuine. I immediately fell in love with him and drunkenly let it slip while we were at a Zac Brown Band concert. Luckily, he felt the same way. All of my favorite memories involve him. We have the best adventures and I can’t imagine my life without him. I am currently in my undergrad graduating in May with a degree in Social Work so for the past 2 years I have lived at school and we did distance. He would drive 45 minutes 3 days a week to come see me. He never complained about getting up at 5:45 am to drive 45 minutes home to make it to work for 8. I have never had someone love me as purely as he does. He truly pursues me every single day and never makes me question my worth and his commitment to me (which is something I have never had). I am so blessed to be loved by this man and now I get to be his wife!

How He Asked

A couple of days before the proposal I noticed that he was acting kind of strange. If you know Tim you know that he is a very outgoing person and rarely ever quiet but, something was off! I asked him multiple times “are you okay” and “what’s going on” and he was reply with “oh nothing, I’m tired”. We had made plans with our best friends Mike & Britt to drive up to Griswold to go to the sunflower patch. Tim & I started going 3 years ago so it was a tradition for us! Sunflowers are my favorite flowers so anytime I can be around them is a dream itself! His step mom has just gotten into photography so she told me that her and Tim’s dad were going up so she could take pictures of the sunflowers! I thought nothing of it! The morning of the proposal, my mom had texted me saying that my dad thought it was a beautiful day for a family outing so they were going to the sunflower patch with us! I thought it was a little strange for my dad to want to drive an hour and 30 minutes to see sunflowers but, I just let it go. Mike & Britt picked us up and on the way to the sunflower patch we went! After walking around his step mom said we should be “rebels” and go in the trail where the hay ride goes because “there’s no one over there and you can get good pictures”. So we walked through the trail and everyone instructed Tim & I to take a picture. So we took the picture and I took out my phone to take a picture of the sunflowers next to me. Suddenly, everyone got quiet and when I look at them I realized they all had their phones out. I turned around and Tim was behind me on one knee asking me to be his forever. I don’t really remember what he said because I immediately burst into tears but I know I was overcome with so much happiness. Later, he told me that he said “The past 3 years with you have been the best years of my life. I can’t imagine being without you. Will you marry me”? We celebrated by lots of pictures, popping champagne, and our mothers created the best props for us! It was everything I could have ever dreamed of!
