Maggie and Nick
How We Met
Nick and I first met when I was 16 and started my first job as a hostess. Nick was the bartender. From the moment we had met, I knew there was something special about him. I remember thinking, this is the cutest boy I’ve ever seen. Nick would always make me personal smoothies and come up the host stand to chit-chat, so it didn’t take long for the whole restaurant to know there was a connection between Nick and I. After Nick left his bartending job and I left my hostess job, we still kept in touch and would see each other every once in awhile. Four years later, I received the longest, most sweetest message from Nick asking to give us a shot, stating that his mom had taught him how to love and although he was scared, he wanted to give me all of his love. This was all I had wanted for years and the time had finally come. I have never felt so comfortable around someone from the start. I knew God had placed this man in my life for a reason. He was the one I wanted to be with for forever.
How He Asked
Nick and I have been dating for two and a half years. The plan was to get engaged after I graduated college (April 2017), but plans change… on New Years Eve that day I had been waiting for was here. A group of friends, myself and Nick rented a cottage at a golf resort for New Years weekend. Our close friend Betsy is a photographer so it wasn’t unusual for her to be taking photos of us. Once everyone arrived at the cottage, Betsy asked everyone if she could get some group shots outside. The backyard was beautiful, surrounded by trees and it began to snow. Betsy then asked to get some photos of each couple. Nick and I were last to go.
After a couple shots of the two of us, I was ready to go inside. Then Betsy yelled, “one more!” I looked at Nick and asked “What are we doing?” He looked at me and started to get down on one knee and said, “We’re doing this.” The last thing I remember hearing him say before all the waterworks came was, “Maggie, I love you so much.” I don’t think I’ve ever cried so hard with so many happy tears in my life. I was in shock, overwhelmed with so much happiness.
After the proposal, I had to ask Nick if he actually asked me to marry him and if he even got down on one knee. It all happened so fast. I am so beyond thankful and grateful to have these photos for the rest of my life. These photos show the story of our proposal and I will always hold them dear to my heart.
11 years ago, my mom walked out on my family. That Christmas, I knew my parents were getting a divorce. New Years Eve, my dad confirmed that my mom was indeed leaving. The holiday season was never the same after that. This New Years Eve, Nick decided to create a new happy memory for me. (Just another reason why he is the man of my dreams and the love of my life)
After looking through all the photos, we couldn’t stop laughing at the fact that I never once put down my mimosa during the proposal….”When you get engaged, but mimosas are life.”
12/31/16 was the best day of my life. I get to marry my best friend!!! AH! :)
