Madison and Reed
How We Met
Reed and I met my very first week of college at Washington State. We were randomly assigned lab partners for Biology 106 and the entire lab I was so nervous to talk to this handsome, smart upperclassman that he thought I was giving him the cold shoulder. There wasn’t enough chemistry in our biology to make it happen there, but fate wasn’t done pushing us together. One year later I joined the Athletic Training Program that Reed was already in, we worked long hours together and slowly broke the ice. We started officially dating after a Christmas party on December 8th, 2012. We did 2 years long distance from Pullman, WA to Salt Lake City, UT while Reed was in grad school and I was finishing up undergrad, it was really hard but we always made time to call/text/facetime and my favorite was actually sending handwritten letters and cards to each other. When we finally moved in together I assembled them all in to a journal which makes for a great coffee table keepsake.
How He Asked
My boyfriend Reed and I were at my family’s cabin in Bend, Oregon for a week long vacation with my parents, brother, and a few close friends. On Sunday morning, we were getting ready for our 11 AM brunch reservations when my mom “was running late” and asked us to run up early to grab the table. In the car on the way there, Reed called the restaurant to let them know we were running a few minutes late and they told him our reservation wasn’t until 11:30 – a fact everyone but me already knew. Since we had time, Reed suggested that we go up to Pilot Butte (one of my favorite spots overlooking the city of Bend) to take a picture. My friend had rode along with us and agreed to be our photographer, so when we got up to the top we got set up for a picture at the lookout and then Reed got down on one knee and popped the question! I was completely surprised and excited and shocked at how gorgeous the ring was! After the proposal, we went to our 11:30 brunch reservation to find my family and friends waiting with bottles of champagne to celebrate. It was the perfect proposal in my favorite place surrounded by some of my favorite people.
