Madison and Josh
How We Met
Josh and I met in middle school. We were friends of friends at church and met through them. We ended up going to the same high school and became the best friends everybody wants in high school. One day in my Junior year and his Senior year, I got to school and one of my friends gave me a letter, on it said, “To Madie” and nothing else. I opened it and it was only three words, “Will You Go?” Later that day I got another letter saying, “Go Out.” By this time I kind of figured what it was asking me but I didn’t know who was asking. I was secretly hoping that it was Josh. At the end of the school day I was packing by backpack and I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around and Josh was standing there with the third letter.
I did not even open it, I just hugged him and said YES! Ever since then it has been me and him against the world. We have been together for almost 4 years.
How He Asked
Josh and I had been spending as much time as we could together for two weeks. He was back in town from Regent University for Christmas break. We like to spend each holiday with both of our families so we split up the days. Usually the day before we will go to his families house and the day of we will go to my families house. It was Christmas eve so we went to his house after church that morning and played games, ate great food, and opened presents.
By the end of all of that it was time to go to the candlelight service at our church. Afterwards it was FREEZING but he really wanted to go get milkshakes. I said ok and we sat in the parking lot laughing about how stupid it was to eat ice cream when it was 30 degrees outside. He told me he has one more present for me but the store was not open so he could not pick it up yet. He wanted to show me what store it was from, I agreed because I really wanted to spend more time with him (even though I still had not finished wrapping all of the present at my house). We get downtown and we park by our usual date spot. He wanted to walk to the store… In the cold! Again I agreed.
We started walking and all of a sudden he blows this whistle and out comes a friend of ours playing “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran on the violin. It is my favorite song and I start squeezing his hand. He pulls away and gets down on one knee and says this beautiful speech. We couldn’t look at each other because we knew we would cry. I am shaking half from the cold and half from the adrenalin of the moment. I am thinking to myself “Is this really happening?” I had been hinting to him for a while that I wanted to get married. Then he asked that magical question, “Will You Marry Me?” I immediately said YES! It was so magical with all of the Christmas lights downtown and the violin. I could not have asked for a better man!
