Madelynn and Jeremy

How We Met

I met my fiancé, Jeremy, in high school when we started cross country together. We started dating May 9, 2013 at the end of our senior year and have been together since.

How He Asked

We’ve been on countless vacations together and we always see each other every day even if it’s just for a second. On November 5, 2016, he told me we were having a cookout at his Aunt’s house, so I needed to dress nice.

I was a little suspicious but I didn’t want to get my hopes up. When I got to his house so we could leave, he kept taking his time and going slow. I told him I was really hungry and that he needed to hurry up.

After we left, he said he needed to stop at the BMV for something about his motorcycle. I told him that is was probably closed and that we needed to hurry up since I was hungry. We finally got to his Aunt’s house and the first thing I always do when I walk in there is go into the office to put my stuff down.

I noticed a car that looked exactly like my mom’s. I asked Jeremy’s mom whose car that was and she told me that his Aunt got a new car. As I was walking into the living room, I noticed my family coming down the stairs.

I immediately started tearing up because when I left my house, they were all busy doing stuff and running errands. I stopped crying because I thought in my mind, “maybe Jeremy invited them to eat?”, so I stopped because I didn’t want to look weird for crying for no reason. But then Jeremy’s mom whispered, “go get the box”. That’s when it hit me.

All of my family had their phones and cameras out and I knew that it was happening.

Jeremy came back into the living room, took my hand, and walked me in front of everyone. He started saying, “These past few years have been amazing. We’ve been together for 3 1/2 years now and I was just wondering; will you marry me?”

I was so surprised I was speechless and I nodded my head yes.
