How We Met

Cameron and I “met” about three years ago. We really just had mutual friends and ended up following each other on social media. We would “like” and watch each others stories, barely ever actually commenting or sharing. We had about a year of doing that before Cameron started responding to my Snapchat stories. One night, I was at my boss’ house with him and his wife when Cameron responded to my story saying he needed my kind of positivity in his life. We got to talking and he asked me if I’d like to go eat sometime. Duh! Food is my love language and happens to be his too. But I was in the middle of a run of a regional production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. I told him he could take me to dinner but he had to come see my show that night first! And he did! We met each other for the first time after the show in the lobby and the rest is the best two years of my entire life!

How He Asked

Cameron had told me weeks before to keep August 25th open. He does this every now and then, so I didn’t think too much of it. All I knew is that I should dress up and that we were going somewhere. That afternoon, we drove through our town and we passed up the cemetery where his mom is buried. She passed away 6 years ago. He has only brought me there twice. As we passed it up, he turned to me and asked if I minded if we stop by. When we got to her spot, he asked me to get out of the car, which I thought was odd. I was going to give him his space. At her site, there was a letter in the floral arrangement with my name on it. I opened it and began to read the sweetest words from his mom. It was signed, “Your mother-in-law, Kelly.” I was weeping. Full on ugly crying. Cameron got down on one knee and asked me to be his wife.

A photographer was there to capture it all. And to my surprise, my family was at the bottom of the hill watching from inside of a limo! Cameron walked me down the hill where I was greeted with a huge bouquet of sunflowers – my favorite – and both of our families. Then the limo took us to one of our favorite Mexican restaurants where even more family and friends were waiting! It was surprise after surprise and the day was PERFECT. There was such a sense of peace over the entire day. And now we’re getting married November 2019!
