Mackenzie and James
How We Met
James and I met in 2010 at the beginning of our sophomore year of college at the University of Wisconsin. We had mutual friends and lived in the same dorm, he was two doors down the hall from me. Our relationship began as a close friendship. He first confessed his feelings for me one night when we were watching a Packer game together. Instead of telling him I liked him too, I awkwardly responded with “I know,” probably not what he was hoping to hear! The sweetest part is James called my dad and asked if he could ask me to be his girlfriend. After we graduated college in 2013, James moved to Minnesota to work at Best Buy’s corporate office, and I stayed in Madison to attend law school. We have been long distance for the past two years, but James is kind enough to make the drive down to see me every other week.
How He Asked
One weekend when James was visiting, he suggested we go to adoration at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in downtown Madison. We went into the chapel and prayed together for a while. As we were leaving, he asked if we could walk by this shrine with beautiful paintings of Mother Mary lining the walls. James took my hands and told me how much he loved me (which is when I started crying!) and that I was the most beautiful, faithful, and intelligent girl that he wants to spend the rest of his life with. He got down on one knee, pulled out the most gorgeous ring, and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes!
