Lysette and Grant
How We Met
Grant and I met on one of the first days of school. When we first met it was very casual, we both never thought anything of it. We both had the same feelings of not wanting to be in a relationship, but obviously that didn’t last long. I remember one of the first days that I had ever met Grant, He was talking to one of our mutual friends about a marital book that he has just finished and he instantly caught my attention.
We had gone on dates for awhile and right before He asked me to be his girlfriend. Before he had asked me to be his girlfriend, He asked my dad for his blessing, just to honor him. Normally guys do that when they are about to propose, but when Grant did it so early on, I knew he was different. I had never dated a guy even remotely close to Grant. Every door, he opened. Every meal, He payed for with so much enthusiasm. He respected not only me, but my family so much as to include them in every big decision. He pursued me with so much intentionality and persistency that I knew very early on that he was the one.
How He Asked
We are originally from Texas and for my 21st birthday my family wanted to take me on a celebratory trip to Los Angeles! Grant and I have never traveled together so it was something that we had been looking forward to for a long time! Leading up to the trip I could tell that Grant was getting a little more anxious than usual, but I had no idea that he was going to propose in the way that he did!
On our trip we pretty much had every day mapped out except for the actual day in which he proposed. We had spent the day just visiting little cities in Orange County and enjoying my families company. When we were with my family, my brother in law had told me about this mountain in Laguna Beach called “Top of the World” that I needed to visit. I am such a chicken when it comes to heights that i was dreading going to this mountain all day. Driving up the mountain, my stomach was turning and it was the last thing that I was wanting to do. Once we got up to the mountain though, I quickly got over it!
Grant took me to the mountain at the perfect time when the sun was setting. It was one of the most breathtaking views I had ever seen. Grant kept telling me to just stand with him at the edge of this mountain to just soak it all in together.. little did I know he was about to propose!! When we were overlooking the mountain, Grant told me one of his favorite scriptures and the next thing I knew, He was down on one knee!
That day, that moment, everything about our proposal was so breathtaking. Grant did such an amazing job of including my family and making it so personal not just for us, but for my family! Once Grant proposed, he told me that leading up to that day, he has so many other plans and places that he wanted to propose but none of them worked out. But now, we are both so thankful that all of his other plans fell though because of how beautiful the mountain was!
