Louis and Lindsey

How We Met

It all started in 2008 at Division Ave High School. Despite my efforts to change my Health class, I remained the only junior in a room full of seniors. As one of the seniors in the class, Louis seemed very serious and uninterested in engaging with an underclassman. I found his contagious laugh and sense of humor with his friends intriguing. It didn’t take long for me to try and get his attention. He was training for football season and was diligent about eating chicken sandwiches every three hours. I thought it would be funny to hide these sandwiches. This quickly progressed to me hiding his backpack, strategically walking next to him in the hallway, and even trying to sit on his lap! As a last attempt to gain his attention I asked Louis for a ride home after our final exam… he said no! In the Fall of 2009 our paths crossed again at a mutual friends house. When I saw him I immediately got butterflies and without thinking I ran and jumped into his arms to give him a hug hello. His reaction did not suggest that he was as excited to see me…. or so I thought! Three weeks later Louis contacted me on Facebook to arrange a night of bowling with friends. A formal date (including Louis arranging to meet my parents and reservations at a fancy restaurant) followed. Two days later Louis asked me to be his girlfriend and the rest is history!

Louis's Proposal in Central Park

How He Asked

September 1, 2017 will always hold a special place in our hearts. It was the weekend of my 25th birthday and anyone who knows me knows how much I love celebrating my birthday! Since this was a big birthday, Louis planned a full day of surprises in Manhattan. I was secretly hoping Louis would propose around the time of my birthday but he was acting very calm which convinced me a proposal was not included in my birthday surprises. When I arrived at Louis’ house I noticed that he was dressed a little fancier than usual but I thought nothing of it. Once we arrived in Manhattan we started our day with a walk through Central Park. I believed we were headed to a surprise location for dinner and after walking in the park for a little while Louis shared that we were headed to the BoatHouse for dinner. After getting lost trying to find our way to the restaurant, we eventually found our way (thanks to the kindness of strangers!) and actually arrived an hour before our reservation. Louis suggested waiting by the Bethesda Fountain to take a few pictures and watch the row boats. While walking to the fountain Louis asked me what I thought the other surprises were for the night. After sharing some of my thoughts we ended up in front of the fountain. Louis told me that the real surprise was that we were getting engaged!

Louis and Lindsey's Engagement in Central Park

As Louis was getting down on one knee, onlookers began to cheer and applaud. I immediately started jumping up and down, shouting… “yes, yes, yes!”. Before Louis even had a chance to propose I pulled him up from the ground to give him a hug! After he put the ring on my finger I spotted a photographer taking our picture! Louis even thought to hire a photographer to capture the proposal followed by a photo shoot throughout Central Park and the streets of Manhattan. We are both so excited to begin this chapter of our lives and hope you enjoy reading our story! My 25th birthday weekend proved to be full of surprises that Louis and I will never forget! #LindseyandLouSayIDo
