Lizzi and Nathan

Nathan and I were planning our first big road trip with both our dogs. We drove from Orlando to Syracuse, New York (20 hours) and stayed for about three weeks with some of my family. (Yes, we’re crazy to take 2 dogs in the car for that long!)

While we were there, my aunt, my cousin, and I participated in the Iron Girl Triathlon. We had been training for over a year, bought all the gear (spent a ton of money), and were so excited!

Nathan mentioned his family was going to come and watch the triathlon, along with his little sister, long before we left, which I thought was awesome! I didn’t think they wanted to fly all the way to New York to watch me and a ton of other women run in a race, but I was so excited to see them and show them off to my family. I guess I didn’t think much of it? They were practically my family, anyways.

Finally, it was race morning and everyone was there to cheer Sharon (Aunt), Lauren (Cousin), and myself on! We ran a great race – I got poured on during the bike route, and enjoyed having strangers cheer along side the race route. It was so funny to see Nathan and our families hold signs for me throughout the race.

It was such a wonderful feeling to be done. I crossed the finish line and was given a water bottle (I later went back for 2 more). Nathan along with our entire family was there waiting at the finish line. I got my big medal that I had waited over a year to get and mentally crossed off “run a triathlon” from my bucket list.

After everyone was hydrated, my dad ordered everyone over beside the finish line to take some pictures. The next thing I noticed Nathan was one one knee, asking me to be his wife.

I can’t really tell you what he said because honestly, I was so overwhelmed I don’t remember! Luckily two people took videos so I was able to (later) hear him tell me he loved me and that he can’t wait to spend the rest of his life with me. I do remember, though, really wanting a shower. He placed the ring on my finger and needless to say, I said yes!

After saying yes, making lots of calls, and yes, showering, there was a huge party planned just for us! We spent the rest of the night soaking up every bit of love from our family and had so much fun.

And we lived happily ever after!
