Lindsey and Will
How We Met
Will and I grew up together in a small southwest Virginia county. We were always very close friends and before ever dating were paired together by our peers. During our senior year in high school we were voted Homecoming King and Queen as well as Best All Around. We did not get the hint until college, where yet again we became unexpected neighbors. Will and I are very much the complement of the other, where one lacks the other excels, where one is weak the other is strong. Our friendship evolved into an unwavering love for the other and we knew that we were meant to be together.
How He Asked
Enamored by Charleston’s charm when they first visited in March 2014, the city quickly became a frequented destination for Will and Lindsey as the special bond created with the city further strengthened the love shared between the two. As Will began to think of places to ask for Lindsey’s hand in marriage, his mind naturally shifted to Charleston and, eventually, to the Middleton Place. The Middleton Place, a National Historic Landmark, is home to America’s oldest landscaped gardens created in 1741 to reflect rationality, geometry, and balancing vistas that characterize the grand classic style of the 18th century. It is here, a place full of such beauty and splendor and representative of Lindsey’s passion for architecture that Will knew would be the perfect place to ask the most important question of his life.
On September 25, 2015, Will and Lindsey visited Charleston for a long weekend trip as they had done many times before. This time, however, Will had instructed Lindsey to bring her favorite black dress as he would be taking her out to dinner on Friday. As they each got ready, Lindsey could not imagine that what lay ahead would change her life forever. Upon arrival at the Middleton Place, Will led Lindsey around the manicured grounds, explaining the history of the plantation. Among this organized magnificence and enchanted by their shared love, Will lowered to one knee and asked Lindsey for her hand in marriage. These moments were spectacularly captured by Abigail, owner of Non’Pa*Reil photography in Charleston.
Exemplary of their faith and befitting of the Holy City, Will founded his proposal on the scripture of Mark 10.9, “Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate.” Captured within the simplicity of this scripture is the true commitment that Will and Lindsey seek to make to each other by joining in marriage.
