Lindsey and Matt's Marriage Proposal on Easter
How We Met: Matt and I met in college at the University of Southern Mississippi. He played baseball and I played soccer, so we had many mutual friends who brought us together. After college we both found jobs in Hattiesburg so we decided to stay in Mississippi. We had just made 2 years in February and everyone asked us when we would be getting engaged. I would laugh it off and say it wouldn’t be until the end of the summer at the earliest!
How He Asked: The day before Easter we went to his granddaddy’s house to celebrate Easter with his family, since we would be in Louisiana with my family for Easter Sunday. We decided to eat lunch on the back patio over-looking the lake. Lunch conversation was filled with concern and dismay because the lake was being drained due to construction on the dam. I didn’t understand what the big deal was… the lake still had some water and looked pretty to me.
After lunch Matt asked if I wanted to take a walk down to the lake, which we have done before after family meals. We went down to the dock and overlooked the low-drained lake. The next thing I know Matt starts telling me how much he loves me and how he wants to spend the rest of his life with me. Words can not describe the shock I experienced in that second… Never in my wildest dreams did I think this would be happening now! He then got down on one knee, pulled out a small red box and asked me to marry him.
After I said yes and we kissed, I noticed his brother standing by the trees taking pictures of the entire thing! The drained lake now made sense! Apparently Matt had been planning this proposal for over a month and the city just happened to start draining the lake that week. His whole family was concerned that the pictures wouldn’t come out nice due to the lack of water. But they did and I love them! After we celebrated with his family, we headed down to Louisiana where he had a party planned with both of our families and my close friends. It was a day that I was certainly not expecting but one that I will never forget.
