How we met
We met through a mutual friend on a weekend in July 2005. He said it was love at first sight when he saw me, but I didn’t feel the same. We started talking and hanging out as friends and after a few months, we became a couple. I don’t know when it happened, when I started to accept his feelings and felt the same. We were very young, but our relationship lasted three years before it ended. Our relationship ended very dramatically, and because of that, we went separate ways without any contact for some years.
But after a few years without speaking, he contacted me again. We started talking again as friends. After a while he said he had never been able to forget me during these years and wanted me back. And after many ups and downs, we became a couple again on my birthday in 2013. This time, it feels better than ever. We understand each other better after everything we’ve been through. The years apart have made us grow as individuals and together. I think this is fate. That we are each other’s first and last love. We have gone through a lot, and found our way back to each other.
How he asked
We’ve been dating for three years and we’ve traveled together a few times, and one of my dream destinations had always been Santorini. We would have gone there last summer, but we couldn’t make it. So this summer we had booked a trip there and we both looked forward to it! Santorini is a very beautiful island. We had an absolutely wonderful week.
On our last night in Santorini, we planned to have dinner at the hotel’s restaurant. Before the dinner, he wanted to first take some pictures. Meanwhile, when we took pictures we saw that the best tables with the best view were taken. One table was reserved with champagne. I was disappointed and didn’t want to take any more pictures. But he insisted and eventually I got tired and we finally sat down at another table. Then he wanted to ask the waitress to take a picture of us at the sunset. I didn’t want to but went along with it. After he handed over the camera to the waitress he suddenly took my hands and looked at me. Just then I realized what was going to happen and couldn’t believe it! I was so surprised and couldn’t really hear his words.. then he took out a little box with the ring and got down on one knee. And of course I said YES!
It felt so unreal. I have had a little hunch that it would happen soon, but at the same time it felt so far away. But of course he would choose Santorini during the beautiful sunset to be the place to pop the question. Sunsets have always been special to me, so he couldn’t have done it better! I went from being a girlfriend for several years to being a fiancee to this wonderful man who has seen all my bad and tough sides, but still wants to spend the rest of his life with me!
