Lilly and Cody

Lilly's Proposal in Niagara Falls

How We Met

Cody and I met in our third-grade class, where we quickly became friends. He attended my 9th birthday party and gave me a cute heart-shaped box. After third grade, we went our separate ways. We then reconnected at our 8th-grade field trip to Dorney Park over our shared interest in the same music. We occasionally talked and hung out up until we had gym class again in 10th grade. We started talking and spending more time together and by the summer we had gone on many dates. While playing manhunt, we were hiding in the woods when he nervously asked me to be his girlfriend! We quickly became inseparable, despite the long distance while I studied in Pittsburgh. Over the past 5 and a half years we have traveled to 23 states and 2 countries, have shared a love for all things outdoors, and just enjoyed each other’s company.

How He Asked

For my 22nd birthday, I wanted to take a trip somewhere we had not yet been together. After looking at a few different options, we decided to go to Niagara Falls since Cody had never been there. We thought the best way to enjoy our time there was to experience it outdoors, so we stayed in a yurt in a campground. We had been talking about getting married for some time, and he said he would propose by my birthday, so all weekend I was on the edge of my seat, expecting it to be any moment, but nothing happened. Although I was bummed, I settled in to enjoy our time together. We hiked into the canyon, road the Maid of the Mist, and went over to Canada. On our last night, we decided to go for a walk to Lake Ontario. The sky was so clear that night that we could practically see every star sparkling in the moonlight. We stood there taking in the beautiful view when all of a sudden we saw a shooting star! I had no idea what was coming, but I secretly wished for him to hurry up and propose already! I told him to make a wish and he suddenly became even more nervous than when he asked me to be his girlfriend.

He avoided the question and quickly asked me what my wish was. I did not want to rush him, so I did not say that I wished for him to propose. Eventually, he worked up the courage to say his wish was for me to be his wife. And just like that, my perfect man was getting down on one knee and asking me to spend the rest of my life with him. I cried and said yes! I later learned that on all the trips we took over the summer he had the ring in his pocket and prayed for God to show him when the timing was right. I couldn’t have asked for a perfect proposal than a shooting star with only the two of us.
