How We Met
We met through a mutual friend while I was home in Destin, FL from college at Florida State pursuing my master’s degree. We immediately clicked and he asked me out on a first date. A little Mexican restaurant and a park with a little river flowing through it had never looked better and made me so happy. The butterflies in my stomach went away VERY quickly and everything just seemed right! We talked, we laughed, we enjoyed being together, learning about each other and making each other smile. He was from the north and I’m a southern girl… never though it would work as well as it did, but when it’s right it’s right! He supports me, motivates me, loves me for me, accepts my crazy southern football ways and so much more and I am so lucky to have him by my side.
How He Asked
He had been deployed for just over 4 months and he was coming home!!! I had picked up his daughter earlier that day and we were getting ready to go pick up her daddy. 1am… 1am and he was HOME! He texted me they were here! the bus pulled up and he was the FIRST one off (never thought anything about it at the moment). I let his daughter, Preslie, run and give him a hug and I followed. I hugged him so tight and was already tearing up! He spun me around and we didnt let go of each other and just were in the moment together. Time stood still. He was home. I was back in his arms and his daughter (my bonus daughter) was here! It was all perfect.
When we stopped hugging he put his bags down and said, “with a little help from my friends”… that’s when I noticed all the guys and girls lined up behind him. One yelled and they all ripped off their jackets as he pulled out something from his pocket…. their shirts said it all, spelled it all out. WILL YOU MARRY ME?! He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!!!!
That was the best moment of my life! He made sure I had friends there, people were taking pictures so we could cherish the moment forever. I was so happy, happier than ever! Blessed to be able to spend the rest of my life with my best friend!
Yes it's 1 a.m., but you don't want to miss this. What better way to end the celebrations of #America's birthday than to get engaged? Not to mention, it's these #AirCommandos' first minutes back on U.S. soil. Welcome home! 🇺🇸
