Leah and Marc
How we met: Marc and I met two years ago online. We both had an account on ChristianMingle.com that I was about done with until I received a message from him. I instantly thought he was very handsome and had no problem continuing the conversation he started. We texted back and forth and spoke on the phone every day for about a week until we decided to go on a date. We met up at a bar (I wanted to make sure we were in a public place, obviously) and hit it off immediately. I made him wait to kiss me until we went to Dave & Buster’s, our second half of the date. That first kiss made me realize this man wasn’t just another guy I could pass off as nothing. He instantly became part of me. Not long after that, Marc asked me to be his girlfriend and we introduced families. I became very close with his mom and his step-dad, even making our date nights with his parents. One date night with his family, Marc told me he loved me and I knew we had a bright future together.
How he asked: Marc and I had just gotten on board the Carnival Magic to begin our vacation in honors of our two-year dating anniversary. One of my girlfriends and her husband were on the cruise with us, so we were already having an amazing time. As much as I can recall, Marc was never nervous; he was very lovable, actually. Since I work in the wedding industry and I read up on the little things men do leading up to proposing, I had an idea Marc was going to propose, and I was wondering if it would happen on the cruise ship. If there’s one thing I know about my man, it’s that he loves surprising me in ways that I would never forget, and I adore that about him.
The first night on board, we all went and played some bar games then sang karaoke. I got up and sang but I was super nervous. I looked over and saw Marc talking to my friend and her husband pretty intensely. I didn’t think anything of it because it was kind of loud in the room and I figured they were discussing what bucket of beer to order next, haha. After I finished, Marc got up and announced to the crowd he was singing this song for the love of his life, then pointed at me! He sang Bad Medicine. During his song, my friend leaned over to me and stated how we really should go back to the room so we can open a bottle of wine and grab some stogies so the boys can go on the smoking deck and enjoy our first night. I pushed a little for us to stay out, but fell to peer pressure, haha.
We returned to the stateroom Marc and I were staying in and Marc all of a sudden got super excited. He told me he wanted to give me my “anniversary gift.” I sat down next to my friend and her husband on the couch and kind of shrugged like, “Okay cool!” He told me I needed to close my eyes first. I gave him a look like, “Really? Okay, whatever,” and giggled it off. I put my palms over my eyes and the next thing I know, his hand is on the right side of my face telling me to open my eyes. I had a flash of a thought that maybe, just maybe, this is an engagement ring. But I shrugged it off because I also pointed out a rockin pair of Kendra Scott earrings I’ve had my eye on for a couple weeks that I wouldn’t mind having for our anniversary. I took a deep breath, opened my eyes, and realized my best friend in the world is down on one knee holding a ring in front of me! I immediately burst into tears and buried my face in my friend’s lap! After I consoled myself a little more, she got up and took some video of Marc on his knee! I will always remember how sweet his face was. He had tears running down his face and told me he loves me.
My friend and her husband said goodnight to us after we bounced around crying and screaming and shaking hands. Marc opened the bottle of wine we had been saving for over a year and sat me down on the couch to “officially” ask me to marry him. Of course I said yes! At this point I still hadn’t looked at the ring because I was so happy that the man I loved more than I could ever explain just asked me to be by his side for the rest of our lives. I was finally able to take a look at the gorgeous ring he gave me. He was so excited to give me the background information on the planning process, how he had to sneak around and keep this secret for over four months!
