Lauren and Damian
How We Met
The day I met Damian I never would have thought he was going to be my future husband. Damian and I met on tinder, of all places. It was a Friday when we matched, Damian had messaged me first and told me that he was going camping for the weekend and wouldn’t have any cell service so he would message me on Sunday. I figured that come Sunday he would’ve forgotten about me. Well Sunday came and a message from Damian popped up on my screen. We talked and agreed to meet the next day in a town in between ours. We lived about an hour and a half from each other. So the next day after work I headed to a bowling alley we agreed to meet up at. I get there and the bowling alley was closed but luckily there was a bar right next to it. I call Damian to make sure hes there and he’s inside waiting. I walked in, sat next to him and from there on out we became inseparable. We would both make the drive back n forth to see each other. Damian began spending more time with my family and I. My family is a huge part of my life and being with someone who got along with my family was very important to me. Damian became my best friend. Damian showed me exactly how I should be treated and respected in a relationship. It didn’t take long for me to fall in love him. After two months I knew he was the man I wanted to spend the rest of my life with. We had went to a bar in my town one night and that’s where I told him I loved him. It was shortly after that we started talking about our future together: a family, a house, marriage and everything else we wanted to experience together. The more time we spent together the more sure I was about our future together.
How He Asked
Our one year anniversary was August 15, 2017 and we had taken a mini trip to southern Illinois. I for sure thought he was going to pop the question while we were on out trip. But to my dismay, that wasn’t the case. Damian knew I was expecting a proposal out of the trip but he wanted it to be unexpected. Once we got back from our trip, I just kept wondering when it was going to happen. It was Labor day weekend and we were going camping with my family. I had mentioned to Damian a while back that these campgrounds called Ceco were special to me. I had been camping there since I was a baby and it had always been my second home for the summer. Damian had never been camping with me yet so I was even more excited to show him one of my favorite places. We arrived that Saturday. The sun was starting to set when I asked him if he wanted to go for a walk so I could show him around the campgrounds. We were headed to the lake, and there’s a dock on the lake. He suggested we go out onto the dock to take a look at the lake. The sun was just about to set and the lake was absolutely beautiful. At that moment Damian says “This is perfect”. I look at him confused for a second then the wheels in my head start turning and it hits me by what he means. Damian looks at me and says “Lauren, you are my best friend. I don’t know what I would do without you in my life. I do know that God has his hand in all things. I know God has his hand in blessing my life with you every day. I know I am a better man with you. I know I want to spend the rest of my life with you.” Then he got down on one knee and asked “Will you marry me?” By this point I was in tears and all I could do was nod my head as he put the ring on my finger. He stood up and asked “Is that a yes?” My response was “Oh hell yeah that’s a yes”. He knew how much Ceco meant to me. He told me that he was not only marrying me but my family and he wanted the proposal to be somewhere that had family roots and meaning along with it.
