Laura and Anthony
How We Met: Anthony and I met at Barney’s Beanery in West Hollywood on July 13, 2005. On this Wednesday night, I was there with some friends after having just returned from vacation in Mexico celebrating my college graduation. Although I initially just wanted to stay in and get some rest, I agreed to go out to offer moral support to a girlfriend who had been invited to Barney’s Beanery by an interested suitor.
Anthony was there with his co-workers celebrating his friend’s birthday. While my friends and I waited in line to get in (yes, apparently this was the hot Wednesday night spot), the two groups began chatting and continued their conversation inside at Anthony’s table the rest of the night.
So how did Anthony finally steal my attention? He tried to impress me by mentioning he was a CPA. And it worked (to both their surprise!). It only took about a week before I learned this wasn’t even true. But lucky for Anthony, I stuck around anyway.
How He Asked: Flash forward nearly 5 years later, and the two of us (now-CPAs) had moved to my hometown of San Francisco. It was Fourth of July weekend, and the weather forecast was sunny and clear (a rarity for a San Francisco “summer” day), and a perfect excuse for a picnic. Anthony took me to the Marin Headlands with picnic basket and champagne in hand, and found a perfect spot overlooking the San Francisco skyline. Just as we were about to leave, he set the timer on the camera to take a picture of the two of us. Once posed, he got down on one knee and proposed! And I said YES! When I finally regained consciousness, I realized that the camera never actually snapped to capture the moment. But to my surprise, Anthony had actually set the camera to record the entire proposal! Days later, Anthony and I were off to Puerto Rico for their engagemacation – a perfect beginning to the start of their life together as Mr. and Mrs.!
