Larissa and Noah

How We Met

We met when we were a freshman and a sophomore in college. We were in the same speech class together. The first day of class, we all had to give a 3-minute speech about ourselves. I still remember Noah’s speech as if it was yesterday. He talked about how he was a sophomore but he felt like a freshman because he transferred from another college. He also talked about his roommate that was in the same class as us and a fish that they bought together.

Months passed by and I decided to talk to him first so right after class, we both walked out of the classroom together and without even thinking about it, I asked: “How’s your fish doing?”, He looked at me super surprised that I knew about his fish and asked how did I know about the fish. I told him I remembered the short speech he gave the entire class the first day of school. He walked me to my dorm and the rest is history.

How He Asked

He asked me if I wanted to go out on a date for our 3 and a half year anniversary. I thought it was weird because we normally don’t celebrate but I thought it would be fun go out for dinner.

The day of, he texted me while I was at work saying that he had a reservation in a really nice restaurant downtown Grand Rapids at 7 pm. It was a busy day at my job so I knew it was going to be a long day but I wasn’t sure how long. Later that day, I realized I was going to get out of work almost at 7 pm so I texted him saying sorry that I was going to be done later than I expected but he said no problem, I’ll push the reservation back.

I went home and changed really fast and he picked me up 10 minutes later. On our way to the restaurant, he played our favorite romantic songs such as Can’t Help Falling in Love by Elvis Presley and Thinking Out Loud by Ed Sheeran; he was singing the songs super happy and super loud. I thought it was a little strange because all he listens to is Drake when he is driving but I thought it was cute.

Then, I saw that he was taking another route so I asked him: “Where are you going?” and he said: “I found some free parking across the blue bridge, and we can walk from there to the restaurant. It’s super close.” When we got there, we started walking towards the blue bridge and I noticed he was looking around for something or someone but I didn’t say anything. I also noticed there was a fisherman sitting in the middle of the bridge “fishing” and when I was about to ask him if people could fish there, he faced me super quick and told me: “You know I love you so much” he got on a knee and said, “I want to spend the rest of my life with you, Will you marry me?.” I was really surprised that what I always dreamed of was finally happening. My eyes started watering and I said YES! I kissed him and hugged him and when I turned to the right, I noticed a guy super close filming us. IT WAS THE FISHERMAN! His friend was dressed as a fisherman so I wouldn’t notice he was there filming us!

I had mixed feelings when everything happened; I wanted to cry, excited to marry the man of my dreams, and when I saw his friend dressed up I just started laughing so much! Everything was perfect. I can’t wait to marry him!!
