Kylie and Kyle
How We Met
We met on September 20th 2014 when Kyle saw me shot-gunning a beer at an ECU vs. UNC Tailgate (we promise we will come up with a more romantic version for our kids!) Neither of us had gone to either one of those colleges, but went with mutual friends for homecoming weekend. Kyle is from West Virginia and I am from Pennsylvania and we both moved to Raleigh, NC where we live around approximately the same time, so it felt like it was faith when we met in Greenville, NC and had matching names (great pick-up line ;). He asked for my number, we went on our first date a week later and the rest is history!
How He Asked
So after two years of fun and laughter, Kyle popped the question! Kyle had the ring for FOUR MONTHS before he proposed in which he tried to plan an elaborate surprise filled with family and out of town friends, but with our busy schedules, all plans fell through. So on our two year dating anniversary, Kyle took me to Sarah P. Duke Gardens at Duke University where we had gone on one of our first dates just over two years prior. When we got there, a park attendant told us the gardens were closed for a private event and could not go in the main entrance. Kyle said he was so glad I was looking out the window because the look on his face was that of pure devastation. Luckily, the parking attendant was wrong and we were able to go in through another entrance.
Kyle took me to the exact spot we had taken a picture together in 2014 and sat me down on a bench. He looked at me and said, “I know this isn’t perfect, I’ve been trying to plan something for months, but I’m sick of not being married to you.” I was completely surprised when he put the box in my hands and got down on one knee.
Needless to say, it was the easiest question I was ever asked. And Kyle was wrong, it WAS a perfect proposal.
