Kyanna and Kevin
How We Met
At the time, I was a bartender at a restaurant, and Kevin was the manager at the steakhouse next door. He and his co-workers would always come have an after shift drink at my bar. One night he and his friends asked me to join him at this big super bowl party one of them was throwing, but I politely declined. After that, he continued to be very persistent and after a few months I finally decided to give him a shot and the rest was history!
How He Asked
Sunday, January 10th, 2016: Kevin and I had plans that evening to attend our friend Brian’s birthday celebration down at The Vine Restaurant & Bar in San Clemente. However, little did Brian’s girlfriend Candice, know that he was about to propose to her in front of all their friends and family! I was so incredibly happy for them and was so excited to get to be a part of such a special moment! Earlier that day, our friends Russ & Sarah invited us to meet them for a pre-party cocktail at the Montage in Laguna Beach . So as Kevin and I started to get ready for the evening, I watched as he started putting his outfit together on the bed. I remembered asking to myself “why he was getting so dressed up for someone else’s proposal?” but didn’t think much more into it. I did what every girl does, and changed about a million times before I decided on my outfit of the night. We jumped in the car and headed down to Laguna Beach. As we were driving down the 133 I noticed a plane in the sky pulling a banner that said “Will you marry me, Adriana?”. I immediately pointed it out to Kevin, but he was so distracted with something it didn’t even phase him. As we were pulling up to the Montage, I got a text from Sarah saying they were running a little late. So, of course, Kevin and I went straight to the Lobby bar to order a drink while we waited. While I was looking at their cocktail menu, Kevin noticed that the bartender was getting slammed. When I mentioned I wanted a cocktail Kevin snapped and said “this guy is too busy, can you just pick a glass of wine or beer, please?” I couldn’t figure out why Kevin was being so weird and anxious. Once we got our wine, Kevin took my hand and said, “lets go take a walk outside and get a picture with the beautiful backdrop of the ocean and sunset so we can send it to my Mom.” We began walking and I was admiring the beauty of the property, since I had never actually been past the lobby before! As we continued walking along the sidewalk we came across this look out point beautifully decorated with red rose petals and candles. He walked through the aisle of rose petals & candles and asked me to join him. I immediately said “No, babe, this is obviously set up for someone we can’t just go in there!”
He took both my hands into his and said “This is all for you, Sarah and Russ aren’t coming, they never were” As a big fan of the Bachelor, I couldn’t help but feel like I was on the show and getting the final rose. He then told me I was the love of his life and that he wanted to spend the rest of his life with me and then BAM! he was down on one knee saying those 4 little words you dream of hearing your whole life! And of course, I said YES!
Seconds later, I heard the faint clicking of a camera lens and noticed one of Kevin’s friends photographing the whole thing just like I had always wanted! It was absolutely PERFECT! I didn’t think the night could get any better, but to my surprise, Kevin had more in store for me that night. He told me we had to get going so we got a few photos together and hit the road again.
While we were in the car I began making my calls to my friends and family telling them the exciting news. As we were on our way to our next destination, he told me we would not be attending our friends Birthday/Proposal celebration. We soon pulled up to Mastro’s Steakhouse in Costa Mesa. Kevin had rented one of their private rooms for the evening and when I walked in both of our entire families were there to surprise me (even his Mom, who flew out from Massachusetts just for this!). It was the most incredible night! I couldn’t even believe that he pulled everything off without me even having a wink of suspicion. From thinking I was going to be a part of someone else’s proposal celebration, to meeting our friends for drinks, little did I know that day was going to be the BEST DAY OF MY LIFE.
