Kristie and Jelani
How He Asked
So my fiancé Jelani surprised me with a trip to Disney World for graduating from a Masters Program. He was planning this for months, I should have known because he was randomly calling my mom and sister which he never really does. It came across my mind that he might propose there because I am obsessed with all things Disney, I’ve always wanted to go there, and we’ve been talking about getting engaged for a while. At the time I didn’t want to think too much into that though because I didn’t want to get my hopes up and be disappointed if it didn’t happen. My cousin Brandi told me to make sure I look good every day though just in case so I did. The first two days in Disney we went to the Magic Kingdom. The second night we were there we had a reservation to have dinner at Cinderella’s Royal Table, which he made himself months ago back in March because those reservations are impossible to come by. We both got all dressed up which was funny because everyone in Disney dresses so casual, even at the most expensive restaurant there so we stuck out like a sore thumb but I didn’t care because we looked great for photos and because I ended up getting engaged that night so it was perfect. So when we check in with the hostess we request the table next to the window because then you are able to get a great view of the fireworks while having dinner.
They told us we weren’t able to request that but while we were waiting apparently Jelani went and talked to the hostess when I wasn’t around and asked for them to have a Disney castmember come to our table to take photos because he was going to propose. Again, they said they couldn’t do that because there aren’t photographers available in the dining area at this time, so he asked for the window table again and they allowed it only because we were going to propose. We sit down at dinner and enjoy our meal and then Jelani goes to the bathroom during the time when the fireworks were going off. He comes back and on his way back to the table I see Jelani give his phone to a random person and that’s when I knew he was about to pop the question. While the fireworks we’re going off in the background he gets down on one knee and says, “You are my life, my everything. You are my hopes, my dreams, my world come true.
I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?” And I said yes! It was such a magical moment. I really loved it too because I was honestly so surprised. I didn’t expect him to propose inside the castle, I thought if he would do it at all it would have been outside in front of the castle. I loved every minute of it. He told me all of these stories of how he wanted to propose and how difficult it was for him to get a photographer to capture the proposal so that’s why he ended up having a random person take the photo. Now as you can see in the pictures we have photos in front of the castle. After dinner, there were photographers outside and we found one that had time to take us around different spots in the park to take Engagement photos, so it was perfect because we have a bunch of amazing photos from that magical night. A dream come true, I can’t wait to marry Jelani and spend the rest of my life with him.
