Kristen and Tyler
How We Met
Tyler and I both went to the same high school, we also happened to both be in a band. The first away game I was walking onto the travel bus looking for a seat. The seat next to Tyler happened to be open, so I asked if I could sit by him, and he said sure! We were previously introduced to each other by a mutual friend so I kind of knew who he was, but didn’t know him very well. During our first bus ride to that away game, I knew that this guy was going to turn into one of my best friends, and he did. Our time together was fun and natural, our conversations weren’t forced and it turned out we were both into similar things. In fact, he raced his car at a racetrack that my family has been super involved with, small world! From then on, we always rode the bus together and became best friends, but we were only friends.
Fast forward a couple years and now we are in college. We lost touch a little, but a mutual friend invited me over to hang out and told me Tyler would be there. When I got there Tyler and I quickly picked up back where we left off. Eventually, it became apparent that we were both into each other, but we were worried that we would rock our friend circle. What would happen if we broke up? Who would get to keep our friends? We decided to give it a shot though, and who knew, maybe we would never break up. Look at where we are now! Tyler has been my best friend since I met him, and now he will be for the rest of my life!
How He Asked
Tyler’s family invited my family to go on a ski trip together. I had never skied and my parents had not in a while. Since Tyler has been away at school working on his Master’s Degree he and I never got a chance to celebrate our 2-year anniversary, we scheduled some time away from our families to go on a little date and celebrate together. Tyler planned the whole thing so I didn’t know where or what we were doing. While we were getting ready to leave I was being a pain and didn’t want to dress up. He was so sweet though and told me to wear whatever I wanted, but convinced me the dress I had would be best. Even though it was freezing outside! So, we left and headed toward the restaurant.
When we pulled up there was a cute pond with a fountain and gazebo all decorated for Christmas. I said “ooh! Let’s exchange our gifts in the gazebo!” Little did I know, but that was the plan all along. I convinced Tyler to open my gift first because I was really excited about the Fit-bit that I got for him. (I know, it doesn’t even compare to the gift he had planned for me!) He opened it and was excited, but something was up with him.
Then he handed a little white gift bag to me, and might I add, it was very light. I pulled out all the tissue paper and there was nothing in the bag! I looked at Tyler and he grabbed my hand and pulled me to the center of the gazebo. He got down on one knee and I immediately started tearing up. I don’t even remember what he said, but I do remember the “will you marry me?” I exclaimed, YES!!
Some people driving by and hanging out around the pond started honking and cheering. When we looked around Tyler said, “you see the people hiding in the bush?” His brother and sister-in-law were hiding taking pictures of us the whole time! Then he told me that our families were meeting us there for dinner. The whole time we were at dinner I couldn’t stop smiling and looking at the ring! I couldn’t even eat dinner because I was too excited! It was all such a whirlwind, but it’s definitely one I will remember for the rest of my life.
