Kristen and Sean

How We Met

We met at Starbucks. (Well, ok, technically we met online after discovering a common interest in the music of Andrew McMahon.) Our first date took off from the coffee shop in the suburbs to spend an afternoon in Center City, Philadelphia. After grabbing drinks at McGillin’s (Sean’s self-proclaimed favorite spot in town), we wandered Old City streets and along Race Street Pier. Following that first date, we spent the summer getting to know each other and taking weekend trips to Kristen’s family beach house at the Jersey Shore. Our mutual love for photography often led us to wander the beach with cameras in hand for sunrise & sunset.

How He Asked

Two and a half years, six Andrew McMahon concerts, and countless cups of coffee after that first date, we traveled down to Mexico for a Christmastime getaway with Sean’s family. After a nice day relaxing beachside, we got ready for dinner and headed back down to the beach to take some photos just before sunset. That seemingly ordinary walk on the beach turned into a moment we would never forget. Sean’s brother joined us down by the surf and captured the special moment as Sean got down on one knee & the joyful celebration that followed.

Where to Propose in Riviera Maya, Mexico

The beautiful emerald-cut center stone was one of three passed down from Sean’s paternal grandfather. He asked Sean’s mother to put these three emerald-cut stones into a ring and wear it until it was time for each of her three sons to get married. One by one, a son proposed and the stones were removed from his mother’s ring. When it became the time for Sean to take his stone to find a setting, he chose to work with Benari Jewelers because they made him feel like family. They helped him find the perfect Tacori setting for the heirloom stone.
