Kristen and Kyle
How We Met
We met in 2008 through Kristen’s friend Brooke who was dating one of my friends. We dated for a brief time before splitting, and had not talked with one another for three years until 2011 when we met up in San Francisco. Kristen messaged me via Facebook messenger if I wanted to catch up since we had not seen each other for so long. We met in front of Gap and it was like no time had passed, she looked even more beautiful than I remembered. Even though walking around San Francisco can be a little brutal it didn’t seem to faze us. We walked up and down the San Francisco streets and talked for hours. When we parted later that night we knew this was the start of something special.
How He Asked – As told by Kristen
Let me preface this by saying Kyle is an independent filmmaker and he meets with new clients frequently. It is not uncommon for him to ask me to assist on shoots. That being said, the morning of the proposal when he told me we needed to be at a shoot by 5:40 a.m. it didn’t seem out of the ordinary. As we headed out to what I thought was the shooting location, he surprised me by saying instead of going on a shoot today we were actually going on a hot air balloon ride. I was completely shocked, this was the last thing I thought we were going to be doing that day. As we headed out to our private hot air balloon I had no idea what was about to happen.
We took off and were enjoying the scenery around us as our driver was pointing out various landmarks in Oregon. Little did I know it was hard for Kyle to pay attention because he was so nervous about proposing. Once the balloon was high enough in the air he turned me around and popped the question. He had a whole speech prepared that instantly left his mind due to nerves, and was so adorable as he tried to recover what he wanted to say. Once he opened the ring box and I saw his mother’s original engagement ring I was so excited I took the ring out of the box and yelled YES!
It was the happiest moment of my life and I couldn’t stop smiling for the rest of the day. Both of our cheeks hurt from smiling so much.
