Kirsten and Issac
How We Met
Issac and I first met in a band in high school. We played different instruments but still ended up near each other during marching season. During my junior year, Issac’s senior year, we would talk here and there, but I was too shy to really have a full a conversation. At our last band concert of the year, we sat down in the audience while the other band performed. Issac just so happened to be sat right in front of me. Before the concert began, he turned around and told me I looked beautiful. I thought he was crazy, I had no makeup on and my hair was a curly mess. Right when the concert was about to start he turned around again and asked if he could get my number after the concert. Since that day, we have talked almost every day. I remember coming home and feeling so excited and giddy about him and the possibility of what might happen in the future. Later that night he asked me on a date for later that week.
We went out that following Friday night to Big Boy for dinner. He picked me up in his truck and went to dinner. We talked for a long time, long after our food was eaten, and then he took me home. When he dropped me off, he asked me if he could kiss me. I thought that was the cutest thing ever! On May 27, 2015, Issac asked me to be his girlfriend…in the bread section of Meijer. I was so happy and I have been ever since that day. He told me he loved me at 1 am at Big Boy a little while later, and the rest is history!
How He Asked
Issac and I frequently get photoshoots taken by my mom, usually around our anniversary. This year was no different. On our actual anniversary date, we went to the Star Wars Costume Exhibit, so pictures were postponed. A few days before the actual engagement, Issac had texted me asking if I had that coming Sunday off, said yes, and then he asked if we wanted to go take pictures for our anniversary and also get some pictures of his nephew. As we talked about it, I mentioned to Isaac that I might wear a dress since it was supposed to be nice out. He insisted that I send him a picture of my dress so that we could match. I woke up the next morning to a text from Issac and also an Apple Pay message from him. I thought it was a little strange he was giving me money to buy a new dress for the photoshoot, but I also wasn’t complaining. I bought a new dress, sent a picture of it to him. When he replied back, he was so excited to find something to match. I was a little suspicious, but I let it go. We went to East China Park to take pictures. Issac’s truck was already in the parking lot when my parents and I arrived. My dad was my moms assistant for pictures that day so the three of us rode together.
When we pulled in the parking lot, I saw his dad outside and remembered that his mom said they wanted family pictures with his nephew. Issac was still in his truck. I went out to the bridge with my mom while we met up with Issac’s mom and his nephew, Sebastian. My mom took a few pictures of Sebastian while we waited for Issac to come out of his truck.
Issac came over to the bridge and my mom started taking a couple pictures of us. Then she had us each go to opposite sides of the bridge and “look out in the distance” for our pose. Next thing I know, I’m getting tapped on my back. When I turned around, Issac was down on one knee and said: “Will you marry me?” I, of course, said yes! We were handed sparkling grape juice in champagne glasses and a big sign saying “She Said YES!”
