Kiana and Jake

How We Met

Jake and I first met the summer going into freshman year of high school at a soccer camp for our school team.  We didn’t talk much at first but after a short time we became friends and eventually best friends.  At one point my mom asked me if I had feelings for Jake but I said we were just friends, not wanting to admit how I felt and ruin our friendship.  Turns out his mom was also asking him the same question and to this day they both take credit for “choosing” us for each other!  On the first day of summer going into senior year (June 17, 2010) Jake and I went to Disneyland with some friends.  That evening during the firework show he asked me to be his girlfriend and now we plan to use the date of that special day as our wedding date (June 17th, 2016)!

How He Asked

On September 28th 2015, I got a call from a family friend, Rebecca Thacher, who is a professional photographer.  She asked me if I would model for a photoshoot on “Women’s Empowerment.”  She said I would need to model while working on a truck to show that women can work in a man’s world.  She also asked if we could borrow Jake’s truck and tools, so naturally I thought to invite him to come so he could help us take the pictures.  Turns out he actually planned the whole photoshoot and told Rebecca exactly what to say to get me to agree to do the shoot.  We chose to meet early on Sunday, October 4th, 2015 in order to get the right lighting for the pictures.  Coincidentally, my now future sister-in-law, Cassie, had asked me if I wanted to do one of our usual “sister dates” to shop and get our nails done the day before the shoot! (So my nails were perfect for the proposal!)  The morning of the photoshoot/proposal it was pouring rain.  However, the rain completely stopped in time for Jake to propose! When we got to the spot to do the photos, we did a few pictures by the tires and then Rebecca told me to pop the hood of the truck to get some pictures of me working on the engine.  However, when I popped the hood there was a sign hanging that said “Kiana will you marry me?” and when I turned around Jake was there and dropped to one knee while holding a beautiful ring.  I was completely shocked and of course said “Yes!”  I can’t think of a better surprise from him and am so excited to spend the rest of my life with him!
