Kennie and Tracee's Beach Proposal, A Shane Co. Couple
How we met: Kennie and I went to the same Jr High and High School. Unfortunately we didn’t ever hang out! We knew of each other but we had our own separate group of friends. One day in June 2013, I decided to join Facebook again (I had been off of it since high school). One day Kennie requested to be my friend. I accepted and immediately started stalking his Facebook profile, trying to figure out how I knew him. I decided to just message him. He said we went to high school together and after some Facebook stalking he started looking familiar. We had a fun conversation, at the end he asked for my number. I flew out to California the next day to visit my sister. Kennie and I texted the whole trip! Our conversations were just so easy.
I flew back from California a couple of days later around midnight. Kennie and I really wanted to meet, so I decided to meet him that night. I was a little tired from the flight, but I had to meet this guy! Kennie came and knocked on my door and all I remember thinking when I opened it was “he’s so handsome.” He gave me a hug and then he opened the car door for me. We then took an awesome drive around, where we had some deep, meaningful conversations. It was like he was my instant best friend. I’ve never been so comfortable with someone so fast. I kept thinking “this guy is unreal.” I was already falling for him.
From that point on, we were inseparable! We both knew we wanted to get married one day; who wouldn’t want to marry their best friend?!
How he asked: Kennie and I discussed marriage quite a bit. Mostly it was just me asking if and when it was going to happen. We looked at rings, but I wanted him to pick it out for me. We both have the same taste, so I knew he would do a great job.
Needless to say, I never knew when he was going to get a ring and propose and I am extremely impatient!
In January 2014, Kennie asked if I wanted to go to Mesquite, NV to see his parents. This wasn’t something new, and I love going down there, so I said, “of course!” We made our way down January 24th and arrived in Mesquite around 8pm. I wasn’t feeling too great on the drive down, so I went to bed as soon as we arrived. At 5am, I woke up to Kennie touching my shoulder and asking if I was feeling up for a drive; I was a little confused. I asked if we were going on a RZR ride up in the mountains, which we always do. He just said get ready, let’s go! Thankfully at this point I was feeling all better.
We started driving, and my imagination started running wild. Maybe he was taking me to Las Vegas to propose! We were almost to Vegas, when I saw a sign saying Vegas 20 miles, Los Angeles 350 miles. Without thinking, I said “thank goodness we’re not driving to LA, that’d be miserable”. 20 miles later, we passed Vegas. Now my mind was trying to figure out what was going on and Kennie wouldn’t give me any hints!
After 300 miles, we were close to LA! We heard the Shane Co. commercial on Pandora a good 5 times during the last 20 minutes of our trip. I finally said to Kennie “we never went to Shane Co. to look at rings, maybe we should go there soon.” He was very excited about that idea!
We finally pulled into a private beach in Malibu. He asked if I wanted to go look at the beach, and do some exploring. At this point I was getting really excited. But knowing Kennie, this could just be his attempt to throw me off even more. I tried to act cool, but he could see right through me!
We made our way down the beach while Kennie was doing some filming (which is not uncommon for him, he loves photography and videography).
He asked me to go in this beautiful cave with him, and I took his hand down the beach. It was so romantic and beautiful; truly breathtaking. He walked me to the edge of the water, looked me in the eyes and said the most beautiful and loving words to me. At that point I knew what was going on. I got so nervous and excited! He got on one knee, pulled out a beautiful Shane Co. diamond and asked “will you marry me?” and I said “YES!” He picked me up and we just hugged and kissed for a long time. It was unreal!’
Little did I know he had been filming the whole thing! He had a camera set up in the cave. I couldn’t believe it! I had no idea it was filming! I watch that video on a weekly basis!
Here’s the video, so you can watch it too!
On the car ride home, all I could stare at was my beautiful diamond and my prince charming! I couldn’t believe this fairy tale was my life.
