How We Met

Luke and I met in elementary school. We’ve almost known each other for twenty years! Our families spent lots of time around one another. He was older than me, much cooler, too. As we grew up, we went our separate ways, dated different people. Unbeknownst to us, our mothers were secretly planning for us to fall in love. They worked in the same office and had schemed for almost two years and then it finally happened. I desperately needed some eye candy for a work celebration, so naturally, I complained to my mom over the phone. She took it upon herself to find me the perfect date. She asked Vickie to see if Luke would take me and he said… No. And then he stalked me on Facebook and said yes. He claims to have had his eye on me for a while, but couldn’t bring himself to start a conversation through messenger. We talked on the phone a few times and then we went put putting and then to chipotle. It was all over after that. The work thing seemed pointless after I started hanging out with someone who I once thought, was completely out of reach. He was older, athletic, funny, and such a gentleman, not to mention, so easy on the eyes! It didn’t take long for us to fall in love. We knew from the first date that it was the beginning of the end.

How He Asked

We had been planning a trip together for months to see our friends get married. The two of us had been talking marriage for a while and I thought to myself, “This is it, he’s going to ask on this trip!” A week before we left, he told me he had “a different time line”. I was shocked, but knew that he was the one so it didn’t matter. I tried to come to terms with it. On September 3rd, we landed in Portland, OR and went straight to brunch. We were staying with my Aunt that night and going to Lady Antebellum, so I was ready to hit the road, but Luke was passionate about going to Cherry Blossom State Park. We drove and parked. It was miserably humid and hot, but it was just us.

We walked around, talked a little bit and then I started walking towards the car. Like started stretching, then proceeded to tie his shoe. I thought it was a joke. I started yelling at him, frustrated that he could be so cruel. Then he told me he there was something he wanted to change about me, my last name! I was in total shock and still am, because I get such a happy ending. I can’t wait to marry him!
