Kelsie and Joe

How We Met

It all started 7 years ago. I saw Kelsie for the first time in our high school cafeteria. It took another three years to convince her to go on a date with me. The last four years of dating her have been the sweetest, most rewarding thing ever.

When I saw her in the cafeteria my heart stopped. I thought this girl looked sweet, funny, and genuine. I would go to lunch every day with the hopes of seeing her across the room. Then I found out we had some mutual friends, so I used that as some leverage. We eventually became friends, I moved into her locker (which was in a great location btw), and the years passed by- all the time longing for a chance to date her. My senior year of high school we had a class together. We were the teacher’s assistant in a class for students with special needs. That’s when we started spending more time together. That’s when I finally scored a date with her.

We met up on a snow day at a local coffee shop. We chatted for a couple hours and then wandered down the street to a bakery that serves pie! We had a slice of pie and I thought that would be it. But the conversation was easy and things were going really well! It was dinner time and before we knew it, we had spent the entire day together! A marathon date. It couldn’t have been any other way, either. We did a year of long distance my first year of college, then she came down to the University of Arkansas where I was and 2 years later, BOOM. WE’RE ENGAGED.

How He Asked

Joe and I are both photographers. We had planned a photo shoot with two of our close friends February 5th, which also happened to be our 4 year anniversary. The plan was to go on the photoshoot and then go to a fancy dinner together afterward. Joe picked me up from my house and when I asked where he was going, he said that our friend found a really great spot in east Fayetteville to take photos. I thought nothing of it until we pulled up to the location. I saw a rug, a pillow, and our box. Ever since Joe and I started dating, we have kept a box full of old letters, photos, souvenirs and more. When I saw our box, I knew that this was it. Joe was going to ask me to marry him! I looked over to Joe and ask if we needed to grab our cameras and he just smiled and said we wouldn’t be needing them.

He guided me over to the spot and opened our box. Inside, he had printed off every photo we had ever taken together and amid all of our old letters, there was a new one sitting on top. He read this letter to me while fighting back tears which began with “4 years. I’ve loved you longer. 4 years more. I will love you still.” After he finished the letter, he reached into his pocket, got down on one knee and asked “Kelsie, will you spend the rest of your life with me?”

I said yes!! We then spent time going through all the old photos he had printed off- reminiscing about all the old memories we have shared while dreaming about all the memories to come.
