Kelsey and Grant
How We Met
Grant and I met at a mutual friend;s birthday dinner. To be more specific, she was my friend from college and his best friend’s, ex-girlfriend’s, ex-best friend. We ended up sitting next to each other at dinner and I was so amazed at how funny Grant was and how naturally he fit in with all of my friends at that table. I was obviously attracted to him. I remember thinking that even if dating wasn’t in the cards for us, I wanted to spend more time with Grant because of his amazing personality.
We started texting a few days later and I found out that Grant had never seen the show How I Met Your Mother, which was my favorite at the time. We made plans to watch it together and our first date was spent getting Grant hooked on my favorite show. From there we started dating and Grant followed me back to Western Washington after I graduated from college.
How He Asked
On our second anniversary Grant said that he was going to set up a couples photo shoot for us. We’d talked about the fact that we didn’t have many photos together, besides selfies, and he wanted to change that. A few months later he told me that he had our photo shoot scheduled for July 30 and that I wasn’t allowed to know anything about it. On the day of our photo shoot Grant drove us to the location, I still had no idea about where we were going or who would be photographing us. As we got closer I realized that we were by Point Defiance Park and I was excited when we parked and went to meet the photographer.
Our photographer was Shelby Schmidt, who Grant had gone to college with and whose photos I had worked with at my job – I was very happy to be shooting with her! We started out the photo shoot in the area of the park that has gardens. We then moved to a pond that had a little wooden bridge over it and Shelby said that she wanted to take some photos of just me. I was posed by myself for a minute and then Grant joined me. We were facing each other and he was talking about how much loves our relationship and being with me, and I specifically remember him saying that he wanted to keep just curling up and watching Netflix (one of our favorite hobbies) for the rest of our lives.
He got down in one knee, pulled the most beautiful ring that I’ve ever seen out of his shirt pocket, and asked me to marry him. At this point I was crying and managed to shout, “YES!” I pulled him up into a hug, still crying happy tears and after a minute of hugging I asked him to put the ring on my finger. I still tear up thinking about how wonderful and amazing Grant made his proposal.
After he proposed and I said yes, Grant and I continued with our photo shoot as an engagement shoot! I love that Grant put so much thought into creating such a memorable experience and it’s been a blast showing our family and friends the photos of the proposal.
