Kelly and Michael's Beach Photoshoot Proposal
How We Met
Michael and I met in 2010, our sophomore year of college while studying at Central Michigan University. My roommates and I were planning on going to a party down the street that night. One of my guy friends wanted to come with us and asked if his roommate could also come over to our place beforehand.
Shortly after, Michael walks into our apartment and I was instantly drawn to him. I saw him wearing one of those rubber type livestrong bracelets but it was blue instead of yellow. He explained that his younger brother was just diagnosed with brain cancer and he wore the bracelet to support him.
He spoke with such passion and emotion while talking about his brother you could really feel how much he loved and cared for him. I knew that first night he was something special. When he left at the end of the night I told my girlfriends “that guy is going to be my boyfriend”.
How He Asked
Michael and I had been planning on doing a couples photoshoot for about a month. His older sister was friends with a photographer and she was trying to build her profile and capture more couples.
We had been dating 5 years at that point and didn’t have any professional pictures together, so I was more than happy to have these done and be able to look back on in the future. And since we were living in Glen Arbor, MI during the time it was the perfect backdrop for some romantic photos.
It was a beautiful, sunny summer day and the photoshoot started off perfectly. After taking some pictures in town, we decided to make our way down to the beach to get some last minute shots.
Jessie, our photographer, took some close up pictures of us on the beach, then decided to go back in the tall grass to capture some shots further away.
As we were standing there, Michael grabbed my hands and began to smile. The next thing I knew, he was reaching into his pocket and pulling something out. Finally my brain caught up with me as he was getting down on one knee. I couldn’t believe this was actually happening. From what I remember, he said with tears in his eyes, “I’ve been waiting for this moment for a long time, will you make me the happiest man on the earth and be my wife?” At this point my hands were covering my face, but I was able to finally say YES!
While still in shock, we made our way over to his mom’s cottage where all of our closest family and friends were waiting to surprise and congratulate us. It was truly the most perfect day and one I will remember like it was yesterday for the rest of my life.
