Kelli and Derek
How We Met
In 2013, I tweeted about my college baseball team playing in the College World Series which was retweeted by the team’s account. Derek saw where they retweeted me and thought I was cute. So he added me on Twitter and requested me on Facebook. At the time, I was dating someone so I didn’t think anything of it. Fast toward 7 months to New Year’s Eve night, (I was single then) I was alone from having to work that day. All my friends were out of town and I was depressed to be spending NYE alone. I convinced myself I would find someone to spend the holiday with.
For some reason, I remembered 7 months ago a hot guy added me on Facebook (Derek). I couldn’t remember his name at the time so I texted my friend that knew some of his co-workers asking, “Hey, who is that hot coach at Jackson Prep?” Once she told me, with no hesitation, I Facebook messaged him. Yes, I made the move everyone. Technically, he made the first move by adding me. We texted for a while and had our first date a week later – the rest was history. Two years and eight months later, we’re engaged!
How He Asked
It was my birthday weekend and we had plans to have dinner and celebrate. He told me he had already made reservations and to be ready at a certain time. When we got in the car to leave, he told me I needed to agree to something so I did. He then blindfolded me and told me he had a birthday surprise.
Once we arrived at the destination, he guided me to some elevators that took us to a rooftop and he placed in a certain spot. He asked me, “How much do you love me?” While laughing with confusion, I said, “A lot.”
He said “Enough to spend the rest of your life with me?” He then told me to take the blindfold off and he was down on one knee.
In the background was a good friend of ours that is also a photographer.
She helped Derek plan everything and captured the sweet proposal. We took some more pictures from the rooftop overlooking the city skyline.
He then told me he had one more surprise. When we got to the restaurant all of our family and friends we were there to celebrate with us. Many traveled all the way from Texas and New Orleans so it meant a lot that so many came to be a part of this special night. I couldn’t have asked for a better proposal!
