Keleigh and Cole
How We Met
Cole and I met at Southern Virginia University where we were both attending the fall semester. We had a mutual friend that introduced us to each other one day while eating lunch. I had never thought that red heads were very cute but Cole was definitely the exception. He didn’t know it but all the girls on campus were totally gaga about him. He was so sweet and I wanted to get to know him so I had a plan to talk to our mutual friend to get a group hangout set up but little did I know that Cole was already on it. The hangout didn’t end up working out so he just asked me out on a date. I told a bunch of my friends and they were so jealous of me.
If I could describe our date in one word it would be romantic. When Cole got the dorms to pick me up, I walked out and he looked soooo good. He opened the car door for me and off we went on our spontaneous date. He wouldn’t tell me what he had planned but I was okay with it…I just wanted to hangout with him. We ended up going and getting hot chocolate and doing something called Tim Tam slams he had learned on his mission trip he served for our church in Australia. Tim Tam slams was where you bit the Australian cookie’s two diagonal corners off, drank the hot chocolate through the cookie and then ate the rest of it. It was really yummy and a super cool, unique thing I had never experienced. Most guys now a days just want to go to the movies and I think that is the most boring thing ever. We continued to talk and tell each other about ourselves and I couldn’t help but adore him. Just everything about him from his mannerisms, his smile, the way he treated me and just the fact that he was so interested in what I was telling him had me in awe. It was the best date I had ever been on and he was so different which made it that much better. I loved it all.
How He Asked
We started off the day by going to downtown SLO (San Louis Obispo, CA) and walking around to different shops. It was a perfect, clear California day with a nice breeze and warm sun. After walking around for a few hours, we went back to Cole’s house and relaxed. Eventually he brought up the idea of going to the beach. I love going to the beach so I was totally for it.
On the drive there, the sun was just starting to set and it was so beautiful. I was so excited to see the sunset because 1) they’re one of my favorite things in the world and 2) I’m from the East coast so I don’t get to see them setting over the ocean. Cole told me he wanted to take me to this really cool place where the sunset was the prettiest. I didn’t really think anything of it except how much I loved him for being so romantic.
Once we got there, we parked and walked to this specific place where there was a cliff with big rocks and a rope. I got really nervous because I am really afraid of heights and Cole knew that so I was a little frustrated with him. I ended up going down (super scary) and waited for him at the bottom. Once he got down, we climbed over more big rocks and headed for the beach area. He held my hand while we walked and I finally looked up to see his sister, Tahlia filming us. I then looked over and saw candles, rose petals, and pictures of us on the sand in a pathway to the water. I instantly started crying and everything went quiet. Cole escorted me slowly through the pathway towards the water. I looked at each picture in the sand remembering that day and just the smiles and laughs we had. All of our memories were running through my mind. When we got to the end of the pathway he knelt down on one knee, looked into my eyes and told me he loved me so much. He continued to talk but I didn’t hear anything he said because I was still just so shocked. All I know is I couldn’t stop smiling and crying. Cole then reached down to his shoe, pulled out a gold, shiny case, opened it and there it was…my dream ring. He never ceases to make me the happiest girl in the world. I, of course said yes and that started our journey
That was by far the best day I have ever had. I can’t wait to experience life with my eternal, loving, sweet companion.
