Kelcie and Bo | A Shoe Lover's Dream Proposal

IMG_0664How We Met: Bo and I grew up in a small Texas town and attended grade school together. In Junior High School, Bo asked me to be his girlfriend and we went on movie dates with our parents as our chauffeurs. Bo is a year older than me, and when he went to High School, he broke up with me because it would not be “cool” to date a junior high girl.

The next year, when I became a freshman, Bo asked me on a date and we have been together ever since. We went to college together at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas after I graduated high school and Bo played a year of baseball at Wayland Baptist University.

How He Asked On October 6, 2013, which was our 7 year anniversary, Bo surprised me with a trip to New York City the week of Thanksgiving, November 26-December 1. I have wanted to take a trip to New York City as long as I could remember. During our trip, we did a lot of shopping on 5th Avenue and in SoHo, took a cruise around the island of Manhattan, visited Rockefeller Plaza and Top of the Rock, watched the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, saw Wicked and The Christmas Spectacular at Radio City, and did a lot of site seeing around the city and in Times Square, where our hotel was located.

On Saturday, the last day we were there, Bo surprised me with a shopping tour that took me to some local stores, where I did a ton of shopping. Then, Bo and I was chauffeured to the Brooklyn Museum where we got a private tour, after the museum was already closed, of the Jean Paul Gaultier fashion exhibit.

After we finished the tour and we were exiting the Gaultier exhibit, I noticed there was a trail of white roses that lead to a table located at the beginning of the exhibit. On the table sat 8 pairs of shoes and it was light up by candles. As we walked into the room, a guitarist started playing “Build Me Up Buttercup” which “Buttercup” is what Bo called me in junior high to embarrass me in front of my friends and it just kind of stuck. In front of each pair, there was a nice shoe box with ribbon on it, and on the bottom of each lid was a memory of each of the seven years we have been together.

On the last box, it had Saturday’s date, November 30, 2013, and under the lid it said “The day I asked you to marry me” and then Bo got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. It was the most amazing proposal and the most incredible experience. I later learned that Bo had been working on this proposal for about a year and I could not think of a better way to get engaged to the most amazing person.
