Kaylie and Ethan

Where to Propose in Salt Lake City, Utah

How We Met

Ethan and I are a long distance couple and have been for over 4 years now. We met online 7 years ago by accident over social media. It was innocent and sweet for years as we were just pen-pals. Years down the line we knew despite the 2,000 miles between us, there was a deep connection. The craziest part of it all is that Ethan and I had never met in person until 5 years down the line. We stayed completely long distance in the first 5 years of knowing each other. We wrote letters to one another (I saved every single one of them), we would FaceTime, and text and that’s all we had ever known. We were young and couldn’t afford to stop our lives and fly across the country. Ethan even had to mail me the promise ring he planned to give me because being together in person was impossible at the time.

Thankfully, we were lucky enough to meet in person for the first time in 2016. It was everything we hoped it would be and more. Since then we take turns flying to one another. We spend a week together then we fly by to reality and won’t see each other for 4 or more months. It’s hard being so far away from the person you want to spend every second with.. but we know it won’t be forever. We try to see the bright side of our situation and we are so thankful that our circumstances have pushed us closer and made us stronger individually and as a couple!

How He Asked

One of the very few times Ethan and I were actually physically together, I was in his home state of Utah in August 2017. It was 4 months since we last seen each other so we were so excited to be together again.

Kaylie and Ethan's Engagement in Salt Lake City, Utah

We decided to go out that afternoon and walk around the city. After a while of walking and actually getting to talk in person, we ended up at the Utah State Capitol (which I’ve never been to before so I was super excited). It was just around sunset when we reached the top of the steps of the Capitol. He told me to turn around and enjoy the view as the building sits on a hill that overlooks the entire city. I turned and enjoyed the beauty that is Utah and that’s when Ethan got on one knee and popped the question! Soon his family and friends all jumped out from the bushes and congratulated us. It was absolutely breathtaking!
