Kaylee and Zachery
How We Met
I met Zachery at a church function during the summer of 2011. I was in high school, about to start my junior year, and he was going into his senior year. I immediately noticed how cute and sweet he was. At the time, I was dating someone else but it wasn’t serious and it also going so well. When it ended, my friend Caitlin said she knew the perfect guy for me who was best friends with her current boyfriend. I agreed to be set up with him and go on a double date to the movies with Caitlin and, as it turns out, the cutie she wanted to set me up with was Zack, who I had met once before. We went on several dates and officially became a couple on August 20th, 2011 and our relationship blossomed. As luck would have it, he lived in a neighborhood just across the road from my neighborhood. Another strange coincidence was, when our mothers finally met each other, they realized that they had met before at a cafe for families. They said they hit it off and sat together and talked while me and my brother played in the ball pit with Zach and his sisters. I really believe that we were meant to be, and if we hadn’t met each other the way we did, we still would have found each other eventually. We fit together wonderfully and we really do make a great team. Thankfully, our future dreams and goals were very similar, we ended up even going to the same college. We both attend Texas A&M University in College Station and are both scheduled to graduate in December of 2016.
How He Asked
There is a beautiful little video of our day at the dog sledding park and how it ended in the proposal. The video can be seen here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuADOtuCn94
We began our sledding ride like expected, the guide was getting to know us and cracking jokes along the way. The forest and mountain scenery was beautiful. Halfway through the ride, the guide stopped at a clearing with a view of the mountains and said we could get out and take some pictures if we wanted… Which of course, I did! I noticed when I was getting out my camera that the guide scooted up quite a bit away from us, but I figured it was just the dogs being antsy and trying to keep going. I snapped one photo of the mountain scenery and Zachery, who was sort of behind me, said my name. I turned around as he was pulling a little velvet box out of his jacket pocket and getting down onto one knee. I dropped my camera in the snow and I think I said “oh my god, shut up, no way” which isn’t very nice but thats what I said in the moment! He told me that he loved me and wanted to spend the rest of his life with me… and some other stuff I couldn’t hear because at that point I was laughing and crying, and then he said those three little words that make your stomach lurch: “will you marry me?”. Of course I screamed “yes” through the tears and gave him a huge hug and a bunch of kisses.
