Kayla and Ricky

July 4th, 2016. Our very first date. I was just landing home from a fun trip in Vegas with my college best friend where I rushed to meet Ricky. I remember being so excited and nervous because from the second (literally the second) I laid eyes on Ricky I knew I had to have him in my life. All weekend I had talked about how disappointed I was by not seeing one firework while on vacation. While on our date, we started off with your typical sit down dinner while getting to know someone. However, from day one, Ricky and I have never been one for “small talk”. I felt I knew more about him after our first date than anyone I’d ever been with. Later that night, he surprised me by taking me to a fireworks show in Clarkston where he laid a blanket down at a local baseball diamond. After that night, we became inseparable. Anyone who knows us, knows how crazy our work schedules are but we somehow managed to make it work and spent every free second together. I remember him even coming into work early most days just to see me.

Fast forward to over a year later. September 10th, 2017. Ricky planned a romantic date night at one of our favorite restaurants in Detroit. Halfway through dinner, he told me we needed to run home once we were finished so he could get his glasses because his eyes were bothering him (totally believable because he had recently switched his contacts and has sensitive eyes as it is). When we pulled in driveway at home, the entire backyard was lit up with a canopy that had every single picture we’ve ever taken hanging on twine.

He got down on one knee, asking the most important question of our relationship thus far.

Of course, I said YES! Once saying yes, fireworks started to go off. Our entire relationship has resembled a firework. Intense. Crazy. Beautiful. Fun. My love for him is like nothing I have ever felt before and I cannot wait to spend forever with my soulmate.
