Kayla and Kevin
How we met: Kevin and I went to the same high school but were two years apart and didn’t know each other. We had just started a new job selling tickets for the Padres. At that time, I had just graduated from college and was admitted into a multiple subject credential program for the fall, while Kevin had been substitute teaching for a year and was also admitted into a single subject credential program for the fall.
We had a mutual family friend attend my graduation party who told me that Kevin had just got a job selling tickets, too. She said I should introduce myself to him since we were both starting the credential program in the fall and seemed to have a lot in common.
There are 60+ employees who sell tickets and there are about five different ticket offices we could work at. So, with that being said, the very next shift we had we ended up working in the same ticket booth at the same time. Within minutes of talking with Kevin, I knew he was the one. It was fate.
How he asked: Kevin and I were driving to Coronado Island to eat dinner with his good friend, Sonny, and his fiancee Lauren. Sonny had called when we were approaching the island and said he and Lauren were going to be about 30 minutes late.
Once we found a parking spot, Kevin asked if I wanted to go walk on the beach while we wait for them. He kept us toward the sand dunes, which also looked like we were walking to the Hotel Del Coronado.
As we were a few feet away, we saw a romantic little spot set up. There were four tiki torches, red rose pedals, and lit candles. At that moment I knew what was about to happen.
He had us drop our stuff on the sand right before everything and walked me over. He gave a beautiful speech which I cannot remember because of all the excitement.
He then got onto one knee and asked if I would marry him.
