Kayla and Dallas

How We Met

Dallas and I were both born in Virginia. We were next door neighbors growing up, so we’ve known eachother since we were babies. Growing up we would play outside together, and he would drive me around in my pink Barbie Jeep, go to the pool together, and when it was nap time we would talk to eachother out of our windows! We were pretty much inseparable.

When we were about 5 or 6, Dallas and his family moved to Colorado. Dallas and I both grew up without any contact, then 15 years later after he moved, I had saw his mom post something on Facebook about Dallas, so I decided to look him up on Instagram, and of course I found him. I followed him and looked through his pictures, my thoughts were “thank God, he doesn’t have a girlfriend!” and “wow he is SO cute!” So, I started liking some of his pictures, and he liked some of mine. I then followed and messaged him on Twitter. We started talking and then eventually started texting, we really hit it off. I found out that he was in the Air Force and stationed in Arizona. So, after 3 months of texting and talking on the phone, we decided it was time to fly me out to Arizona and meet for the first time in 15 years.

The closest I’ve gone to traveling was Florida, so getting to go across the country was amazing for me. I fell in love with Arizona, and Dallas. We had the best time, and I knew I wanted to come back and continue this amazing journey with Dallas. We spend a lot of months apart before getting to see each other again, so when we get to see each other again it’s very special. Another time I flew to Arizona to see Dallas, we drove to San Diego, California. That was AMAZING. Ever since dating Dallas I have been able to go to all of these amazing places that I would have never or have been able to go to if it wasn’t for him. I’m not going to lie, the long distance and not seeing each other for months at a time (the longest was 9 months) got hard for us and things got rough. We never gave up.

Engagement Proposal Ideas in Manassas National Battlefield Park

How He Asked

On October 27, 2017, Dallas flew to Virginia after his deployment. I had always wanted professional pictures done of us with him in his uniform, so before he came her I had it set up for us to finally take pictures together. As Dallas and I were getting our pictures taken, there was a moment where we had our backs turned to the photographer, and we had our heads together looking in each others eyes. Dallas made the face he makes when he’s about to cry, and his eyes got watery and I had thought he was just happy, but little did I know. The photographer then told us to just hangout for a second while she fixed the lighting on her camera, so Dallas and I just stood there and talked and laughed, I had looked away for a second and looked back…and Dallas was on one knee. I had always seen this happen to other people while taking professional pictures, but I didn’t think of it happening to me! I was SO surprised and SO happy, he grabbed my hand and told me he loved me so much and asked me to marry him, of course I said YES!

What made the proposal even better, was that the photographer and Dallas had a secret signal and caught it all (I told Dallas a long time ago that if he ever proposed that I wanted professional pictures taken when it happens.) On November 2nd, 2017 my bestfriend asked me to spend the rest of my life with him, and I couldn’t be happier. Of course he still lives in Arizona and I still live in Virginia, but we are planning to move in together soon!!!
