Wedding Proposal Ideas in The Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay Bali, Indonesia

How We Met

I was 19 years old when I entered my second year of college at Santa Barbara City College before transferring to the UC. I remember being so bummed that I had to take a 3:30 pm math class meaning I was stuck on campus for hours in-between my morning classes. Its the first day of school, its hot, I’m sweating, and over the day. I walked into my math class and sat in the back corner because I was so mentally checked out by then, I needed to relax and plus, professors always only go over the syllabus anyways. I am most likely looking down at my phone when out of the corner of my eye I see Trev. He walks in with his backpack, backwards hat, and this huge beautiful smile and my jaw dropped slightly. I was like, “Holy Hell” this is the most handsome guy I have ever seen, I need to stay away from him. I knew that moment that If we met and talked I would completely fall in love with him.

A couple weeks pass and I am still sitting in that back corner just staring googly-eyed at him like a 13-year-old girl. As the classes pass by I found myself moving seats closer and closer to him. Our first midterm was approaching so as class ended Trev asked the class ” Hey guys so our first midterm is coming up and I was wondering if anyone wanted to start a study group”. I swear I don’t even think I realized it but my hand SHOT UP, like “ME ME!! I’LL STUDY WITH YOU!”. No one, I mean no one else offered to study with us, it was so embarrassing but I owned it and we walked out of class together talking. We exchanged numbers and planned to study together at my house.

He bailed of course because he said he “got called into work”. I figured, “Well, it was too good to be true anyway”. A couple days later he apologizes over text and asks if I want to study in the library…turn out he actually was called into work. We met up and talked the entire time, I don’t think either of us cared much about the test. Test day comes and we sit down to start and he turns around and flashes that insanely gorgeous smile along with a wink. I remember thinking, “Well how the hell am I supposed to get through this test now!?”.

Flash forward to 5 years, many waves shared a tiny cat who we adore, and a home we’ve built together. I always knew he was the one since the second I saw him walk through the doors of our math class 5 years ago.

How He Asked

We love to travel and surf. Bali has been a special place for us since we traveled through Indonesia trading off waves from island to island a year ago. I decided to come back for business this year after I graduated from UCSB with a girlfriend of mine. Trev told me before the trip he was going to meet us out there a month into our trip! Once he gets here, he surprises me by saying he booked a couple nights for us through his work at the Four Seasons Jimbaran Bay. We were so stoked! Each room was a private villa and had its own mini infinity pool! It was the most beautiful place I have ever been to in my life. Our last night approaches and he asks me to get dressed up because we were going to go walk on the beach for sunset. This is something we always do so I was just excited to do what we love together here at this dreamy resort.

As we are walking on the beach to watch the sunset we notice that the sun is going to fall behind the resort so we decided to head back up to the resort grounds. We walked these beautiful paths with plumerias everywhere and greenery that felt like a jungle. I spot this gazebo and say, “Hey lets go sit in there!”. So we get in the gazebo and Trevs like, “Uhh I don’t really like this we can’t see the ocean”. And I was like, “uh okay? Let’s move”. I was thinking to myself what the heck? Why doesn’t he just want to chill? I want to watch the sunset. So we keep walking and find this beautiful grassy area over the ocean that looks like it’s where they put on weddings. We decide to take some of the wedding chairs and put them out by the edge to watch the sky change. As we’re sitting I can tell Trevors acting a bit strange. He stands up and says, “come here”. We hugged and kissed but something was off…I could feel his heart beating out of his chest, I thought, holy crap… I stepped back and he said, “you know I love you more than anything right”, And I said, “Of course”. He grabs my hands and says, “my whole life the only thing I have ever been sure about is you and us. The only thing I see in my future and I know is certain is us”. That’s when he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I was too in shock to cry, I was beaming, of course, I said yes and tackled him to the grass and we started rolling around and laughing.

It was perfect. Awkward, giggly, and a bit weird just like us. I am a photographer so I have told him in the past that I don’t want someone to capture this moment if it comes. I want it to just be us. I capture so much of our lives that this was something I wanted to be completely present in & not to worry about a camera somewhere, I just wanted him and I and the sea..the two things I love most. And I got exactly that.

We went to one of the restaurants at the resort for appetizers. We finished up and decided to go back to our villa. As I opened up the villa doors the entire walkway was covered with lit candles and our villa pool was filled with hundreds of plumerias and rose petals. It was the dreamiest thing I could have ever imagined. We popped a bottle of champagne and toasted to our love and future in our flower petal pool smiling from ear to ear.
