How We Met
We went to middle school, high school, and the same University. For the longest time we were just friends and nothing more! We went to a few High School dances together such as Homecoming and a winter dance, but never once did we share any feelings for each other. He is a year older than I am and decided to attend Boston University after graduating. We kept in touch just as any good friends would; however, there was still nothing there. A year had past and he came back home to attend a University that is in our home state. I had just graduated and decided to go down south for school, but shortly after a year we rekindled and went to lunch. Little did I know he was interested in someone else and we mostly chatted about girl/guy problems. Take it further another 4 weeks and we ran into each other at a baseball game. That night he texted me and said he wanted to go on a double date. We spent the next 25 days together before I went back to school. 10 years later, 2 years of dating, 8 states travelled, 2 countries visited, training a service puppy for an Army Veteran and some long distance before transferring schools, we are now engaged and expected to head to Air Force Pilot Training within the year!
How He Asked
We are not good at surprises and tell each other everything. He was so good at keeping the proposal a secret until it accidentally slipped that we were going to ITALY. I had figured he was cooking something up. We had discussed marriage, what rings we like, and places that would be cool to be proposed in…and Italy?!? How romantic right? We flew over with his family and in the back of my mind I had every scenario going on. I was thinking it could be any minute of every hour. I’m pretty open and like to say how i’m feeling so one morning I said “Should I dress nice today?” (not like I wasn’t going to dress nice for the entire trip because it could be any moment right?) He didn’t like that question and ignored it. I definitely thought a proposal wasn’t going to be that day. So we went out that morning to the Duomo and after climbing a million steps, almost passing out, and sweating in every corner of my body we were on top of the world. The sun was shining, the air was crisp but not too cold, and everything seemed so quiet and serene. I was taking pictures on my phone with an occasional snap chat to share my experience with my friends when he grabbed my hand and directed me towards the railing. Little did I know he had put the ring box in his pocket that morning and was just waiting for the moment that felt right. He kept it short and simple while telling me how much he loved me and at that moment I saw my handsome man get down on one knee and ask me to marry him. The sun shining in his perfect green eyes and his bright smile were enough for me to drop down to him and say YES a million times. We rejoiced in our magical moment with his family, the other tourists cheering, and our family back home that were waiting for our return to congratulate us. The rest of our trip was amazing and to celebrate our engagement in one of the most romantic places in the world was surreal.
