Katie and Patrick
How We Met
We met on the first day of the BS/MS Occupational Therapy program at Towson University in August, 2011. We were randomly assigned to a group project together, which was the perfect opportunity to “casually” exchange phone numbers. Several months, many lunches, one ER visit, and a family function later, Patrick officially asked me to be his girlfriend on a surprise date in January 2012. We dated throughout the 4 years in the OT program and proudly graduated together with our Master’s degrees in May, 2015.
How He Asked
We set off through Hurricane Hermine to a week in Outer Banks, NC with our good friends for our annual beach trip. Several grey and windy days later, the sun finally broke through on Tuesday morning. After a perfect beach day, we, along with 3 of our friends, drove to the Currituck Lighthouse. One of the girls had conveniently suggested that the girls wear dresses for “happy hour” that evening so I was photoready! ;) 220 stairs later, at the top of the lighthouse, Patrick proposed to me with the most beautiful, custom-made solitaire diamond ring. I said, “of course!” and then, “don’t drop the ring!” We returned to the beach house to a surprise engagement party and champagne toast with our friends who had decorated the beach house with photos of us over the years.
