Katie and Nicholas
How We Met
Nich and I met way back in 2013. He was a drummer in a band and my family ran one of the largest music tours in America. We met when his band came out on the tour for 3 months. I was only 14 and he was 18 so we just became great friends (even though I definitely had a crush on him).
We hung out occasionally and ran into each other at events in the months and years after the tour but were both too busy to see each other much. 3 years later, in May of 2016, I went to his brother’s wedding and it was just like old times. We danced all night and had a great time. After the wedding, we started talking every day and hanging out when he was home from his tour. In July, I invited him on a family cruise for my 18th birthday. On the cruise, he took me up to the observation deck to look at the stars and asked me to be his girlfriend. We dated for 10 months after that night.
We both knew that soon that we were going to get married one day.
How He Asked
In June of 2017, I was in Panama City Beach, FL working at one of my family’s conferences. Nich was on tour with his band in Colorado. I thought I wasn’t going to get to see him for another week when he was done with his shows. But little did I know, before he left for the tour, he had already bought a ring and booked a plane ticket. I was at the conference and my dad told me I had to go back to the condo to get his computer. When I pulled in, there was sign telling me to go to the beach.
I ran down to the beach and saw Nich standing in the sand at the end of a path of candles and rose petals.
I couldn’t walk fast enough in my heels through the sand to get to him so he met me in the middle and carried me to the end. When I got there, he grabbed my hands and started reminding me of some of the fun things we had done in the last 10 months. He said that he knew through all of it that he was going to marry me. Then he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Then I turned around and all of my family and friends were running down to meet us. After, they had set up a whole engagement party in our condo and we celebrated all night.
