Kathy and John

How We Met

John and Kathy first met in 2006 at their church during a Sunday school class. It was their last year attending and it wasn’t until two years later that they reconnected via social media. John asked Kathy to go on a date with him on Valentine’s Day during their senior year of high school. They both attended each other’s Proms and started officially dating soon after. When they graduated, they became long distant in college as it made their hearts grow fonder. After Kathy graduated from UT, she moved back home from Austin to be closer to John and her family.

How He Asked

John and Kathy started traveling together after Kathy moved back home to Fort Worth. John decided to pop the question on one of their trips. They traveled to Japan for ten days visiting Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo, and Kawaguchiko. They took a day trip from Tokyo to Kawaguchiko to see the view of Mount Fuji on the ninth day. John and Kathy were a bit nervous as they heard stories of some days being cloudy and the view of Mount Fuji cannot be seen. However, they decided to still make the trek to hike up a mountain to see it and Chureito Pagoda, one of Japan’s most famous postcard views.

They stayed the night at a quaint house and woke up at 4 am to make the hike before sunrise. When they got to their destination, they climbed about 400 steps in the Japanese Alps. As Kathy took some pictures on their camera, John then got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. He told her that it was his dream proposal in asking her this four years ago with a Mount Fuji view and this trip could not be any more perfect. John and Kathy got engaged on November 9, 2017. They are now back home in the US and are looking forward to their next adventure of a lifetime.
