Kate and Robert
How We Met
On September 27, 2014 my best friend from high school was having a housewarming party in downtown Chicago. The other co-host of the party happened to be one of Robert’s friends from high school. Both of us were dragged to the party with promises of a good time. When I arrived Robert and his friends were out to dinner so the party started without them. A little while later Robert and his friends came back. Talking commenced, card games began and beer pong started in the next room. As fate would have have it, Robert asked me to play beer pong and we ruled the table almost all night. The party started to wind down and Robert and I decided to bar hop with the party hosts. While everyone else danced out on the dance floor, Robert and I stood by the bar and talked the entire time. We exchanged numbers and parted ways for the night. The next day Robert texted me throughout the day even though it was a Sunday during football season. We realized there was something to this and set up our first date at Lou Malnati’s Pizza a few days later. We’ve been together ever since!
How He Asked
I came home and there was a note on the door that said “Watch your step.” So I thought maybe Robert washed the floor or something. Then I opened the door and walked in and saw a dog toy. Robert had set up our ottoman as a barricade in our hallway and on the ottoman was a vase of flowers and a letter. And on the other side of the ottoman was Robert and Sarge (3/4 Bulldog and 1/4 Beagle. He was 4 months at the time Robert got him). He told me to read the letter and all I could think about was the dog. I asked him if the leasing office knew, if he has all his shots, if we have a vet, if he has food. I kept saying I can’t believe you bought a dog. He told me to read the letter. I skimmed it and then he said come here and I said we needed to talk about the dog first. He said no, got down on one knee and proposed! I cried, he teared up and Sarge ran around. Totally surprised!
