Kate and Robby
How We Met
In early January I was trying to have a relaxing night in when a friend begged me to meet her and some friends at a local bar called Myrtle’s Punch House. I ended up going out and while my friend and I were taking a trip to the bar we ran into a handsome man surrounded by a few people. My friend happened to know the guy from childhood and began chatting. I went the bar and then joined their conversation. After a few minutes of chit chat, I was smitten and asked Robby to join us for a drink downstairs. It seemed like hours before he showed up at our table, but as soon as he sat down we began to talk. We shared stories of how we both studied abroad in London and talked about our shared love of dark beers. Before we knew it the bar was closing and I had to say goodnight to Robby.
A week passed and I had interviewed and accepted a job in Nashville, TN. I returned from Nashville on Sunday and met my friend out for another drink to celebrate finding an apartment in Nashville. She told me how Robby was texting her asking for my number and I told her to invite him out. Robby showed up and I was smiling from ear to ear! We picked up right where we left off and I teased Robby for not asking me for my number the week before. Robby then mentioned how he never asked what I did for a living and I had to break the news that I had just accepted a job in Nashville and would be moving in two weeks. Robby’s face dropped and I smiled and told him he had two weeks to change my mind.
The next two weeks were wonderful. Robby and I spent most of our free time going on dates and getting to know each other. In two weeks I found my best friend!
I moved to Nashville and was certain that although Robby said he would visit that he wouldn’t. Luckily I was wrong! Robby came to visit me and I came back to Cincinnati to visit him. Before we knew it we were in a committed long distance relationship. Although it was hard, it was worth it. Within a month I was in love and knew he was the man I was going to marry. I even mentioned to a friend that I knew I would marry him and I am sure she thought I was crazy. After exchanging I love yous and talks of the future we realized the distance was going to be tough. One night while we were talking on the phone I was missing Robby so much and he was reassuring me that we would be together soon. Robby said, “someday we will be together and then we will be together forever.” From then on when one of us was feeling low about our distance we would say “someday and then forever.” It would always put a smile on my face and make me feel loved.
How He Asked
One year and three months passed by before we knew it. I was ready to move back to Cincinnati and be with Robby. I drove to Cincinnati on April 18 to attend an event for Robby’s family. After a long day of driving and spending the evening celebrating a baptism Robby and I went to his house. We had snuggled into bed and as I was falling asleep Robby woke me up to ask me where we should hang a sign I made us. The sign read “Someday and then Forever” which was our favorite quote to help us with the distance. I told Robby that it was 1:00 am and that we did not need to be worrying about where we were going to hang something.
On April 17, 2016 we woke up and decided to cook pancakes. As I was sitting there drinking tea Robby began to ask where we were going to hang that sign again. I kept telling him I didn’t know and asked him why he was so persistent on knowing where this was going to be hung. Robby then went into the other room and grabbed a sign I hadn’t seen before. Robby said, “I want to know where we are going to hang that sign because I want to know where to hang this one.” As the sign turned around I began to cry as I read “today and then forever.”
Robby began to tell me about his week making the sign and how he went to such great lengths to find barn wood. As I was crying and laughing Robby puled a box out of his pocket. He got down on one knee, told me he loves me, and asked if I would be his wife. Truthfully, we are not sure if I ever actually said yes, but of course I never wanted anything more than to be his forever. I was overjoyed and so excited to tell our families. We were just so happy and I, of course, could not stop crying. I truly whole-heartedly love Robby and I can’t wait to marry him!
And how about that ring?
