Kate and Chace
How We Met
Chace and I met in the summer of 2016 in a popular bar in Downtown Annapolis. I had recently moved to the city for a job post-grad, and he was about to begin his final year at the US Naval Academy. We went on a few dates throughout July and August but were determined to stay friends as he knew he would be graduating and moving on from Annapolis the following May for further training.
That clearly went well: by November and December we had met each other’s families, and were dating exclusively. The spring rolled around, and with that came graduation. And, as things always do, plans changed. Chace was reassigned communities, allowing him to spend an additional year in Annapolis (much to my happiness!) and our relationship grew even further. By the spring of 2018, however, he was assigned for further training a few hours away.
How He Asked
Fast forward to October of 2018: Chace and I were doing long distance as he was stationed a couple hours away from Annapolis for training, while I stayed in Annapolis for my job. My two best friends from college and I had planned a girls weekend: they were traveling in from Pittsburgh and Chicago to stay with me in Annapolis.
We planned to get our nails done, go shopping and do a fun night out. Once we arrived downtown, we headed for the Academy — the best views of the water are from their campus. We found a sunny spot with an array of sailboats in the background and took a few photos. Then, from out of nowhere, Chace appeared.
He gave me a hug and a kiss and asked if we could talk. He got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. Of course, I said yes! Once he put the ring on my finger, we hugged and kissed and I heard cheering — Chace had coordinated for his parents, my parents, one of my sisters and my closest family friends in Annapolis to be there for the proposal!
They traveled in from Orlando, FL, Pittsburgh, PA and Bloomington, IN to celebrate with us. We got to celebrate the rest of the night at the Annapolis Yacht Club with my family and best friends.
