Kat and Michael
How We Met
Michael and I met at Tallahassee Community College our freshmen year. He was an art major and I was a psychology/theatre/undecided major. I admired his cat shirt and he admired my (then) red hair. We became friends and I sat with him and his friends every day in class. That summer we would hang out for days on end; I was to falling love. Little did I know he was too. I told my mom he was my soulmate, and she would shake her head and laugh. Yes, obviously that’s a bold statement considering we weren’t even dating, but deep down I knew I was right.
We transferred to Florida State University the same semester and continued to friend-zone each other out of fear or due to bad timing. But we were truly meant for each other. Our friends knew it. Our family knew it. And we knew it, but were too scared to risk the friendship. On July 14th, 2015 Michael told me that he knew he was the one for me, and I was the one for him. The next 6 months flew by as we FINALLY pursued the best adventure life could give us.
How He Asked
On January 26th, 2016 Michael told me to meet him at the Wescott fountain at FSU after my class. After arriving he said, “I’m here to take you to lunch!” and we proceeded to walk to the student union. He stopped as we were walking through the middle of the Mina Jo Powell Park. With shaky hands and the biggest grin he told me how thankful he was for me, and how much he loved me and wanted to be my everything.
Then he got down on one knee and pulled out the most beautiful rose gold ring. I (of course) said yes. What’s truly special is that was the same park my dad proposed to my mom in 1985 when they both met at FSU.
